Probably be flamed too, but I like "River Monsters", I mean, OK he is a bit of a drama queen about what is, in the end, just a fish, but have you seen the SIZE of some of them? Also, he puts out surprisingly little disinformation, like he didn't really even consider that the Loch Ness Monster was a plesiosaur or somesuch and quickly came to the conclusion it either didn't exist or was a rare type of shark that could have easily swam there from the ocean and was only discovered a decade ago. He's also never had snakeheads eating babies and steadfastly maintains piranha are relatively harmless.

It's also watching how he's made a good living out of what many people I know spend every spare cent they have to do.

Another is "How It's Made", and "Strip the City" is pretty good, if you like graphics.

Documentaries are rather tricky, too many cover a small slice of something much larger and either ignore or brush aside vital information that doesn't fit with the message that the film maker is trying to convey, often that's agenda driven. Outside of the more science based documentaries, I would warn to take them all with a grain of salt.

The ones I most enjoy would be the science ones, like The Blue Planet, any study of various creatures and the such.

history channel The Rise of the Third Reich, and The Fall of the Third Reich.
Pretty intense....these are told through the eyes of Germans and not the news media. If you do watch these two, then compare Nazi Germany to the US today. It's pretty intense

Although the music genre might not fancy most people, I enjoyed Another Day/Another Time: Celebrating The Music of "Inside Llewyn Davis"

I generally find this historian, Neil Oliver. I've taken a few courses on the Vikings, and their significance and achievements are little understood. The Vikings established ridiculously wide trading routes, and many Viking Lords were buried with treasures from around the world, including Arabian currency and Buddhist statues. Few people know that the Russians actually draw their name from a Viking tribe, the Rus.

The Creature From Jekyll Island a book by Edward Griffin is a bone chilling book about the origins and creation of the Federal Reserve. This is a video taped lecture by Mr. Griffin on the subject, VERY interesting stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyT_bD6F6wE And here is another full length documentary on the subject of the Fed called "The Money Masters" with plenty of interviews and great info. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g47NGtODeVM

I actually saw this one a while ago. It had been on one of my binges for all things history. I might just watch it again anyway, lol. Vikings is just one of those things I don't get bored of.

They're very interesting. They had a profoundly different world view, and Nietzsche would probably held them up as the prototype of the Ubermenschen. For the most part, from what I've read, they were largely distinct because of how personal their lives were. I remember reading about how many historians believe Ivae the Boneless had the capacity to conquer Scotland or England in entirety, but he was more concerned with revenge.

    Hi there friend,

not sure if you have any interest in Islam/Islamic culture, etc. but I've recently finished watching a series of documentaries, "Islam: Empire of Faith"

All 3 in the series are up on YT and are very high quality productions: clear, informative, straightforward, UNBIASED, and contain interviews with some great experts...

    ...hope you find these interesting.............peace,

    -Matt

Keeping in mind all documentaries are filmed through the eyes of the creator, I generally enjoy them. I have even watched and enjoyed those put out by one of the greatest morons of all time, Michael Moore.

I have watched a lot of them here:
