I noticed that the $10,000 loan relief thread was getting sidetracked, so I thought I would start one about college and it's application, as there seemed to be a lot of people who had something to say about college, costs, usefulness, etc.
There are many well paying job openings all over the place that the community college system has a good answer for.
It is a good place for people, young and old, to acquire certifications and skills that will make them valuable. It is also a great system for employers to utilize to train their present employees making them even more valuable through apprentice type programs, which businesses large and small can take advantage of. Often, there are tax and other incentives to help out.
The US is woefully short of skilled labor, and universities don't really address that. The pay is rising dramatically, and I personally know thousands of people who are making a good life by employing their skills, not only in their communities, but around the world.
We're not talking about the administration type jobs, but the work that gets things done.
I'm not disregarding other types of jobs, as most are very necessary, but community colleges are a great answer to many of the woes in America today.
Those types of jobs will also be viable for the foreseeable future.
Example: Global climate change. (It's happening, let's deal with it)
The world governments and corporations are moving toward electric vehicles. It will require major changes to the national infrastructure. We are already behind, and we don't have the skilled labor (electricians, general contractors) to keep up, much less kick it into a higher gear. It will take a lot of effort to get it done. Community colleges can help tremendously, and more efficiently.
Temperatures going up? We need many more HVAC technicians. Community college is a perfect solution.
The state I live in seems to be trying to bolster this. I would like to see them start shifting that enormous amount of money they keep sending to universities to community colleges.
And employers need to get more involved, for their own sake, to improve their present and future employees. They will reap huge benefits from it.
This subject is one that Biden pushed, and I think it may have been one of his most important policy proposals. (had to include a political side to it, as this is a political forum)
I think this could be a subject everyone (almost) can get behind.
I think everyone here has felt the pain of not having enough skilled labor available.
    What do you think?
I have a lot more to say on the subject, but now I'll stop and let the bashing begin.
