this truly deserves its own thread since research shows that most neoatheists have had a bad experience with God or gods, which pissed them off! So is it a question of God dont exist or they are just expressing their frustrations the only way they know how? These studies appear to suggest that many atheists may suffer from personality disorders as a result of a failed relationship with God.

Relational reasons for nonbelief in the existence of gods: An important adjunct to intellectual nonbelief.

    Journal Article
    Database: PsycARTICLES

    Abstract

Can people who do not believe in a god or gods still be influenced by past or present emotional reactions to the concept of a deity? We asked self-labeled atheists (Study 1) and individuals holding atheistic and agnostic views (Study 2) to rate the extent to which their nonbelief was based on negative past relational experiences or negative current views regarding the character of a hypothetical god or gods. Among nonbelievers who reported some history of relational emotion toward or from a god or gods (76% in Study 1, N = 171; 89% in Study 2, N = 429), relational reasons for nonbelief were endorsed by more than half of participants (54% in Study 1 and 72% in Study 2). Among participants with a history of emotion surrounding a god or gods, self-reported importance of relational reasons for nonbelief correlated with other indicators of negative, but not positive, attitudes and past experiences regarding a god or gods. Importance of relational reasons for nonbelief also correlated with other personality factors that tend to interfere with relationship quality, including insecure adult attachment styles, entitlement, and trait anger. Nonbelievers reported that relational reasons for nonbelief were far less important than intellectual reasons for nonbelief. However, these findings suggest that, for some nonbelievers, negative relational experiences with or conceptions of gods are seen as a somewhat important reason for not believing in gods.

Is it any surprise so many of them get so vicious when trying to have a discussion!

You aren't very good at this sort of thing. Moreover, if there were a god, it would be very rational to hate it.

Is the point of this thread to determine if a subset of atheists have had miserable experiences that continue to impact their emotional reactions to religion/ God/ the Bible etc and what percentage ?

Well no. The point of this is to label that subset as 'haters'.

Atheism is not a religion. I don't care what a judge said to make it a religion

The psychological reports to that effect seem to be rolling in.

    Religion Wiki

    Neo-atheism

Neo-atheism is the polemic of writers like Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens who disparage and refute the Bible. Unlike their atheist predecessors, they exhibit a ferocious antagonism towards religion. Neo-atheism promulgates a zeal for evolution and Darwinism, exemplifed by Dawkins being described as Darwin's rottweiller.

The difference between other atheists and neo-atheists is that the former rarely push their views on anyone, whereas the modern neo-atheists are essentially anti-religious activists.

    Why Do Atheists Hate God?

It’s hard to hate something we either don’t believe or don’t think exists, so it’s rather a moot point. However, what many atheists have is a hatred for the character of god of a particular religious tradition. For example, I thoroughly dislike the God of Christianity, because he is capricious, cruel, vindictive, and petty. He slaughters people without merit and doesn’t even take the time to show humans how they can improve for him. I hate what that God embodies. I hate how that type of God makes people morally and intellectually bankrupt.
