I have said for a long (LONG) time that what our economy needs (and has needed for at least the last ten years) is a good, long period of DEFLATION! I was shouted down by all the 'growth-advocates' who were happy to see the stock markets (and our national debt versus GDP ratio) shoot up to the stratosphere, but now here we have this corrupt, conniving central bank, the "Fed", trying to resort to deflationary policies in order to stop runaway inflation!

So far, with tiny, long-overdue increases in interest rates, and with careful, highly-selective manipulation of inflation-related data, the Fed has made it look like 'things are on the right track', but I don't believe it at all. Remember -- the almighty-god "Fed" deliberately excludes "food and fuel" from their calculus, and if you exclude that, what real validity does any of the rest of their magic act have...?

And remember -- minimum wages are going up all over the place in 2023, the Social Security recipients are getting a 8.7% increase (the first decent COLA increase since 2008 ), the Armed Forces are getting their biggest pay increases in a long time, etc. How is any of THAT going to lead to a reduction in inflation? Every company and corporation will increase their prices to suck up all this extra money that comes into circulation!

Never forget one thing: everything (EVERYTHING) the Fed has done since Q3, 2007 has had one overriding priority -- PROTECT THE STOCK MARKETS AND THOSE THEY THINK ARE "TOO BIG TO FAIL". Everybody and everything else can go straight to hell as far as the Fed is concerned....

 

Woke teachers tend to have a miserable teaching career. Kids tend to like teachers who aren't taking their inventory all day.

There are far fewer "woke" teachers than rightwingers imagine after being propagandized by rightwing pols and rightwing media.

 

This is the problem...



Workers have had almost no pay increase for forty years, and workers with outdated or limited skills tend to fall below the median.

Deflation isn't a good idea, btw, because it increases real interest rates.

Well, with tongue-in-cheek, I agree with your observation that deflation does have the side-effect of increasing real interest rates! And that, too, is what we need a LOT more of if we're ever really going to "whip inflation" on things that people actually have to buy in order to LIVE.

I remember all too well exactly what Fed Chairman, Paul Volcker, and Ronald Reagan had to do to combat and crush inflation back in the early 1980's, and it required very high interest rates -- but today, all the Fed does is trickle-out these ridiculously-low increases at a rate of even less than 1% EACH. As we approach approximately the beginning of Q2, 2023, it will become obvious that by doing this, the Federal Reserve under this inept moron, Jerome Powell, ain't whipping anything... let alone "inflation".

 

Woke means anti racist, i hope teachers can encourage children to consider being anti racist, which would make those children 'woke' if they accepted racism as bad.

 

Yes, and Jimmy Carter who appointed Volcker may have doomed his Presidency by doing the right thing and giving Reagan an issue to bash him with.

 

There are far too many "woke" types pushing their idea of what is and isn't racist. It's not necessarily racist, for example, to oppose reparations for slavery. Or wanting to prosecute violent felons in black communities.

Our Campuses are too infected to reform themselves, the public universities will have to be reformed by the Elected Legislatures.
