..asumptions not based in fact. These guys haven't had to shoot anyone. Seems to me that's pretty dam*ed smart.

Kudos to this community for filling in where the government is not capable of doing.

The bottom line chief is that I want trained law enforcement protecting me, not a bunch of goat roper gun nuts who have no police training or authority.

Then hide in a large city where it takes 20 minutes for the cops to show up. Like I said, don't go to that town, you'd stand out like a bad thumb.
You've already got what you want, let these people ensure their own safety. Since there aren't any police to help them out, they either must move, cave into the criminal crowd or do like these people did.
You would prefer that they just lay it down and die. That's just like a LEO lover, "..we can't do anything without a cop around...not even cross the street"
If I look at them, it would appear that they mean business and I would no sooner cross them than I would an armed LEO.
And for all of you that say they have absolutely no powers, they do have the Right to make a citizens arrest.
Go quiver behind a badge and be safe............

It's not that I have a negative attitude about them. I just really don't want to be forced into complete and total reliance on them for my safety and security, not to mention the security of my property.
Dependance is never a good thing.

ahhhhhhhhhhhh, another LEO lover. How do you know what these fellows are or are not? Judging on appearance instead of performance.
Anyone who has come into contact with corrupt judges and LEO knows just how corrupt things are.
Just how big of a list do you want? while there is no question about their training (professional, you say) it is what they do with it aftwards that matters.
Here's a brief list of *ahem* professional actions:
Tasering a 10 year old at school for refusing to clean the "professional" cop's commision at school during Career Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXuVbXLskaA
6-7 "professional" LEO's emptying their sidearms into a man already down and dying
Two "professional" LEO's walk into a health-care home, two walk out, but one man (who had only one arm and one leg) in a wheel chair is dead, shot dead center in his forehead
    LEO never bullies http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZW0gGKKYMg
    Destroying evidence http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wptiRNa5HC4

Cop can take away your Rights? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&v=F6QVyI_F_dg&NR=1

I don't have to explain my personal issue when there's enough evidence on the internet. There are thousands of reports evey year about cops out of control, issuing unlawful orders, threatening innocents, beatings by police, questionable shootings.
So, you tell me......is this ok with you? Are you in favor of unrestricted police activities.
So much for your "trained professionals" all of them (LEO) are plain old everyday armed thugs with delusions of grandeur and self-importance.

We can find countless reports of misfeasance, malfeasance, criminal misbehaviour, fraud, theft, abuse of power, breach of fiduciary duty, etc etc on the part of accountants, barkeepers, cops, doctors, engineers, firefighters, government officials, heath care professionals, and Indians; red eastern or otherwise.

What conclusion are we to draw from this?

Human beings are not infallible no matter who they are or what they do.

As for me, I'll take my chances with trained and professional law enforcement rather than some perhaps well meaning but untrained country bumpkins.

you would trade your Freedoms and Liberties for post #31.....good luck with that...
Ultimately you are soley responsible for your families safety, not the fellows that show up after the fireworks.

I haven't traded anything. I enjoy all of my freedoms and liberty.

Perhaps in my home but not in public. In that case I rely on trained law enforcement professionals.

Then that is where we really differ. I accept my responsibility at home and out of the home. Over here, one cannot rely upon a corrupt system to protect anyone. It is a known fact, that the police never are around when a crime happens.....they prevent no crime. So it is up to me to ensure their safety until such a time they can be responsibile for themselves. If by some chance you might believe that I'm a P(*&k, moma bear is definitely much worse, especially when it comes to protecting her babies.
You break into my house, try something out in public with the little ones, or irritate her about her children, she will respond exponentially with her .357, without warning. I will at least tell you to get, first.
I would point out one thing: Governments eventually fail. That is a historical fact that cannot be denied.
IMO, requiring someone else to assume your responsibilities is at best, weak and unrealisitic. AT worst, the people you require to assume the role of family protector are not going to be there when they are needed, until after the act has been completed. That is, unless you have a cop in every house telling you when you can go outside.
Your society is different than ours.
I have one question for you.......Since you are aware of the social and cultural differences between us, and you seem like you'll never visit here, why should you care about how we do things over here, and why should we listen to person who thinks that protecting their family is a part-time job? (actually two questions)
Any person that forces another to be responsible for his obligations, is not qualified to be responsible for anything.
"It is the governments duty to assume my responsibility for keeping my family safe" ...sheesh, that sounds sounds so much like irresponsibility to me. So can you sue them if they aren't there to save your family, having failed in their responsibility?

Where I live law enforcement is extremely well trained, efficient and professional. I have no doubts about their competancy. You are apparently still living in the 18th Century.

I have never questioned their training, only what they do with it afterwards. It is a fool that thinks governments can keep them safe. who's going to protect you from them?
Where's that cop when someone is breaking into your house or killing your family? Donut shop? That professional is no where to be found until after the fact.
If you are happy with graft and corruption, then you get what you deserve...especially if they are professional grafters and corrupted
If you believe that you cannot exist without police protection 24-7 then you are a slave to safety...hardly independent

Other than my service in Vietnam my government has always kept me safe.

Where I live law enforcment has a response time of less than 10 minutes. And do you honestly expect me to believe that all law enforcement officers do is hang arouns donut shops? Perhaps that's true where you live. In that case you should demand more of your police rather than bemoning their effectiveness.
Where I live we have no problem with coruption on the part of law enforcement. Perhaps you do where you live. If that's the case then, again, you should demand a change.

I demand professional and effective law enforcement service 24/7 as do my neighbors. And we get it. Apparently where you live you are less demanding of law enforcement.

Why, when I live in one of the safest areas of the US thanks to trained, professional law enforcement?

Do you want a list that exposes your fallacy? There's enough corruption that goes on in Wisconsin. Funny how someone states it is wrong for one citizen to act disgracefully to another, but it is OK for the cops to do it.
I don't get it, since you live there, why should you care what happens elsewhere. That is the basis for your objection, isn't it? Your safe, so why bother us with your perfect world.
Dude, there are so many examples of cops gone wrong, everywhere, that it overshadows your defense. The Law belongs to the People, not some special interest group. Why not reclaim it instead of giving it all up?

Are you aware of what 'police firearms training' consist of? I think if you knew 'professional' will not seem so professional.

There are examples of incompetance in every profession. My point is that I'd rather have trained professionals protecting me rather than a couple of perhaps well meaning but untrained incompetants with guns.

Frankly, it's readily apparent that ou've had a few run ins with the police that have shaped a very prejudiced anti-police opinion.

I'm very much aware of what Wisconsin Training and Standards Bureau requires for firearms training and requalification for all law enforcement personnel in Wisconsin. It is quite comprehensive.
