Since black hospitalizations for Covid are outpacing white hospitalizations by more than 3 to 1, you are free to drive to your local inner city warzone and let the the residents know that they are scum for not getting vaccinated. Please report how they respond to your message.... better yet, capture the response to your ministry on your iphone.

Do black people only exist when they are useful for propaganda? Are we going to pretend that Black Floridians are not Democrat voters? Do you give a damn about their hospitalization rate? They are ridiculously over-represented in terms of adverse results due to Covid. Are you going to continue to tell them that white supremacy is a greater threat to them than Covid and that they should go to the streets to protest or are you going to wait for the next election cycle before that comes up again?

Except they are coming from a point of moral or historic signicance with this opposition to wearing masks. After all we're not talking geocide or slavery, its a darn piece of fabric of their mouthes. They're just walking a partisan line laid out by the father of the American anti-mask movement, Pres Trump, and justifying that stance with misinformation and outright lies from the likes of Q and other facebook nutters. The trivial cost of wearing a facemask obliterates any rational exercise of 'muh rights' 'muh freedoms' they think are so at risk. They might as well be out there protesting having to wear clothing in public.

No one is attempting to silence him. It's the "Anti-vaxxers" that are getting silenced for "misinformation". Which basically anyone who disagree with the shot for any reason on Twitter, YouTube and Facebook. Soon they are planning on filtering our text messages.

So don't accuse Matthewthf of silencing Arnold because he spoke harshly at him! That's not silencing, that's using his free speech too!

Maybe, but I can take a mask off in the freedom of my own home, I cannot take the vaccine back out of my body. Vaccines mandates are tyranny. It can destroy your means of livelihood and taking care of your family.

The vaccine/freedom to choose question is a more reasonable one. And I think we should have that discussion because if we're going to have a section of the population that isn't vaccinated then we need to figure out what that means. Because that right to choose doesn't affect you alone and that's a problem. If we're going to have 1/3 or 1/4 of our population driving the continued mutation of this virus to the point where it becomes more contagious and more evasive to vaccination then we'll need an alternative solution.

But the debate over masks and freedom/rights, no, just no, its stupid. People who scream about 'rights' when it comes to facemasks are as dumb as those people who scream about 'racism' when it comes to every irrelevant thing they're affixing it to.

Agreed. No doubt they are being selfish and myopic. No question.

My point is something that looks like "oppression" to them is causing that response. They may be right or wrong about what they believe but, here's the thing. We may be too. We don't know if masks work or how well. Have there been any studies on the rate of infection in people that regularly wear masks and those that don't? I would imagine most people would probably lie to their doctor or in the ER and claim they DID wear masks even if they didn't so that kind of data is just unknowable. We don't yet know how well the vaccines are working. We don't know if or when we will need boosters.

And, if you step back one tiny step...them "not knowing" something is equivalent to us "not knowing" something.

So, my argument isn't that they are correct (or incorrect). It's that we can counter those types of objections with factual information instead of personal insults.

I was onboard until the last two sentences. None of that is cool.

What do you propose as solutions to the anti-mask/anti-vax subgroup?

    Well, yeah, we kinda do.

There is now mounting evidence that mRNA-based vaccines such as Pfizer’s and Moderna’s lose potency over time and especially against the Delta variant, and that the Pfizer vaccine’s efficacy drop is significantly more dramatic. The Mayo Clinic study noted a wide shortfall in the mRNA vaccines’ ability to prevent infections among patients using the Mayo Clinic Health System for the month of July, when Delta variant cases made up more than 70% of new local infections in its home state of Minnesota, compared with earlier in the year. Between January and July, Moderna’s jab was 86% effective at preventing infection in this population while Pfizer’s was 76% effective. But for July alone, those numbers fell to 76% for Moderna and 42% for Pfizer, and the researchers observed similar drops for the Pfizer shot outside of Minnesota in states with high COVID counts such as Florida.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/fortun...ta-variant-low-effectiveness-stock-falls/amp/

As for boosters, they're approved for certain individuals. Look for this approval to be widened given the drop-off in the vaccines effectiveness that we're already seeing.

    For Immediate Release:
    August 12, 2021
Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration amended the emergency use authorizations (EUAs) for both the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine and the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine to allow for the use of an additional dose in certain immunocompromised individuals, specifically, solid organ transplant recipients or those who are diagnosed with conditions that are considered to have an equivalent level of immunocompromise.

My sentence is clumsy. I didn't mean we *completely* don't know the outcomes, just that we are only 8-9 months in with the vaccinations here in the US. Delta and Lambda are causing major shifts and we kind of have an idea about their trajectories based on how they've traveled within other countries before arriving to the US. If I'm understanding the discussions between Centerfield and @557, there may be even more variants in our near future.

My basic point to @apexofpurple is I can understand vaccine-hesitancy. However, I'm generally a reasonable person and I can understand those that want to bop the anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers over the head. It's a frustrating situation all around.

What's troubling is that we are only 8-9 months in with the vaccines and are already seeing such a drop-off and approval for boosters. We are seeing that, yes, you can still become infected, still infect others, still become hospitalized even after being vaccinated. Are we just playing whack-a -mole with this virus?

I'm starting to think that a preventative needs to be added to our arsenal. Ivermectin, IMO, needs a more serious looking into as it is being used in many countries both as a treatment and a preventative. Here's a couple links on it.

    https://www.pharmaceutical-technology.com/features/ivermectin-covid-19-antiparasitic-political/

    https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02081-w

I'm not seeing it being dismissed out of hand, but obviously it hasn't been properly evaluated to the point where it could be widely approved. However, given the recent data on the vaccines drop-off in effectiveness, we really need to be looking at alternatives to vaccinating ourselves out of this mess.

Yes. I agree. I believe @CenterField mentioned something about it showing promise and @557 might have added to that, IIRC. I've been in the ER twice in two weeks for asthma and I'm more afraid of catching COVID than I am not being able to breathe. I just don't like being where sick people hang out. Point being, my memory might be shot on this specific subject and their conversations.

Back before the vaccines were completed there was quite a bit of talk about it being comparable to the one time deals like smallpox, polio, etc. so I was a bit surprised we are here talking about a big dip in efficacy and boosters. So, I certainly concur with your "Whack-a-mole" theory.

It's also concerning because my kids are back in the classroom now. They are old enough to take caution and my son is addicted to soap and sanitizer so nothing is getting near him. LOL It's just frightening as a parent. You know we take all kinds of bumps and bruises but want to protect our kids with our lives if it comes to that. Intellectually, I *know* I have to let them grow up and just be there when they fall but my *heart* just wants to wrap them in bubble wrap and fight off all the monsters before they get near them. It's tough. I'm more scared for them than I am myself or my elderly mother.

Do you have any ideas on how long it will take to get something like Ivermectin cleared and available or do you anticipate there will be significant pushback that it won't be considered a serious contender? I hate the way the pandemic has been politicized (on all sides). We are dealing with a worldwide HEALTH problem and political parties should keep their silly arguments to themselves and get down to business in pursuing ALL avenues for effective solutions related to the medications we need and rebuilding our job markets so people can re-stabilize their lives.

If simply uttering the words "social responsibility" magically give you power to implement draconian (and idiotic) measures, then there's no stopping draconian and idiotic measures for any other issue, lol.

You'll need to do much better.

Well, the links I provided show that it's being permitted in several countries already. It's widely used in South America. And then there's this:

The FDA’s position is that the widely available drug is not approved for use against Covid-19 in the US, and the agency said it had received multiple reports of people who have “required medical support and been hospitalised after self-medicating with ivermectin intended for horses”. The European Medicines Agency has said the available data does not support the drug’s use for Covid-19 “outside well-designed clinical trials”, and the World Health Organisation also concluded that ivermectin should only be used to treat the virus in a clinical trial setting.

So, not completely dismissed but not endorsed, either.

Until COVID I had only heard of ivermectin as being a heart worm preventative for dogs. It is approved for use in humans for head lice, at least. The thing is, people here in the US are self-medicating with stuff they get from the feed store. Ivermectin is available in pill form for people and liquid and paste form for animals. So people are getting into trouble by going at it blind. Ivermectin is safe when used correctly, but, like any drug, dosage is all-important.

So, to answer your question, I really don't know. I just see a situation where the vaccines aren't working as well as hoped and acknowledge that we have to find some way to beat COVID back or prevent it everywhere or it is just a game of whack-a-mole, no matter a vaccines effectiveness. This virus isn't seasonal and spreads like wildfire.

Masks genuinely do not work. Critical thinking demonstrates this.

Yet people are emotionally attached to the idea because it was politicized.

Me too. I heard about it late Summer last year and saw many people recommend it by buying the product made for animals. There were also some people that died from drinking disinfectant. I think one couple perished together after drinking fish bowl cleaner. I understand they are acting from a place of fear but I also think the medical system sets people up for this kind of thing.

AMA licensed doctors can lose their licenses for speaking about anything outside of allopathic medicine. That's why there is a constant witch hunt on natural medicine providers. Midwives and chiropractors have been able to carve out a small part to be included, but, for the most part, people are basically on their own if they are tired or don't trust the medical establishment.

Decades ago, an endocrinologist wanted to prescribe a medication and I'm not comfortable taking things I don't know about so I went to the library (I said it was years ago. lol) and printed off some stuff and wrote my questions down. There were just two. I got the papers out and posed the first question and the doctor got furious instantly. He literally grabbed the papers from me and ripped them up and was screaming and swearing like a crazy person. He told me to never question him about anything and I was an idiot and a bunch of stuff I can't post. It was wild. It was upsetting at the time and I've since purposed that I won't see a doctor that doesn't think I have the right to ask questions about what *I* am taking all the risks in taking.

Some of the best doctors I've ever had have always been very informative and reassuring about my concerns. I really don't understand why lawyers, doctors and police officers are just allowed to go batshit crazy on people and nobody cares (unless the bodies start piling up). Those of us outside those professions would lose our jobs in two seconds for that kind of behavior but our dysfunctional society just shrugs it off until or if the rage-aholic snaps at the wrong person. It's this kind of environment that makes it more likely a person will seek outside answers. I believe it would be a great service to teach allopathic doctors about natural and holistic options and teach naturopathic doctors a bit about allopathic medicine so they can partner together for the overall care of the patient. The current system now just pushes people into doing not-so-safe things. It's similar to the abortion debate. Women aren't going to STOP having abortions if it's criminalized. They are just going to resort to doing it themselves or trusting a back-alley doctor to do it like they were doing before it was legalized. Many women have died from choosing those options because safe options weren't available and as long as Delta and Lambda and whatever comes after that keeps going...people are going to continue to take extremely high risks in an effort to stay safe.

While the internet is great and it's so much easier to find information, it is also overwhelming. I made my home page the Google search page because I couldn't tolerate the volume of negative news plastered everywhere. I'm not a germophobic or particularly scared of death but 24/7 horrible stats about COVID cases, hospitalizations, deaths, make-shift cemeteries in other countries, etc. could try anybody. One minute President Trump says we'll all be able to get together by Easter (2020) and here we are, what, 18-19 months and still stuck in a ditch. It's frightening. I'm pretty resilient and I'm worn out with this. I can't begin to imagine what's happening to people who may not be as strong and resilient. It's truly exhausting.

Masks don't prevent viral transmission everyone knows they don't and therefore wearing them that's about capitulating to a political viewpoint.

Forcing people to wear clothing that has no value outside of identifying them is often a first step.

Proper procedure, if you want to use masks:
    1) Buy N-95 masks that are certified.
    2) Change the mask after contact with other human beings. That means multiple times per day and multiple brand new masks per day.
    3) Don't stick your hand up your mask to pick your nose unless you've decontaminated.
    4) Don't stick the mask in your purse or back pocket and then re-wear it, lol.

    Virtually nobody is following this.

I would argue even an n95 mask doesn't cut it.

I've had to wear vapor masks for work for years now. And they never were N95 they were always above. They definitely had to seal on your face, in the canister filters which if it doesn't have that it's not really a vapor mask had to be changed every so often depending on the class.

And a lot of the times these vapors I was protecting myself against had much larger aerosolized droplets then what you would find in normal exhaled air.

Isn't it funny how people kept crying about fascism and Nazis now believe and support the idea of grew your freedom because I need to feel safe.

If tyranny is an acceptable means to acquire safety you are thinking exactly like a Nazi.

Anybody who says "screw your freedom" I view as an enemy of humanity.

People have died for this people will kill for this.
