The not-guilty verdict for George Zimmerman in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin has outraged many people across the country, including "The Wire" creator David Simon.

In an emotional, fiery post on his blog, The Audacity of Despair, Simon denounced the verdict, saying he was "ashamed to call himself an American."

 

Dont want to get shot, dont put your hands on someone. I know selfdefense against a black person is racist and all, but you race baiters are milking this for all its worth.

 

Blow things out of proportion much? I don't think you should live in shame. Everyone who feels shame for living in a country where we couldn't just lynch that guy outright should go move somewhere where they can be proud. Europe maybe?

I'll respond. Alexander was under no imminent threat of violence, i.e. she wasn't on her back getting walloped MMA style. Alexander pointed the gun at Gray and his children, at which point Gray put his hands up. Alexander still pulled the trigger but missed Gray. Gray then took his kids and exited the house and immediately called 911. Alexander stayed in the house and never called 911. Certainly Gray had abused Alexander before, but there was no evidence she was acting in self defense at the time that trigger was pulled. Unlike the Zimmerman case.

 

We don;t need anymore apologists for Black violence. Move to Africa.

 

I'm ashamed that David Simon is an American, also.

20 years is still a bit excessive. Problem with a mandatory minimum with gun laws. In any event, it has nothing to do with stand your ground anyway, that was a case of assault with a weapon. That law doesnt apply.

Martin had no need to stand his ground and in fact had gone back to the apartment where he was staying. Zimmerman never threatened him with imminent serious bodily harm as he did to Zimmerman.

He had the gun to protect himself. And good thing he had it too, since it turned out Trayvon was a rabid animal.

Zimmerman never planned on using his gun, or laying a finger on the individual under surveillance for that matter. But Trayvon convinced him otherwise while he was pounding his head into the concrete.




If not for that gun, Zimmerman could have suffered permanent brain damage or possibly worse.

 

Why do you believe any one in America cares what you think of us when you are so ignorant of us?
