Bank robberies are real severe crime involving guns, employees & patrons & guards, and there are some things that could be done to end this crap besides silent alarms. I would like to see as standard application, drop bars employed, more armed guards perhaps behind a bullet proof shield on duty, drop glass on teller windows, a knock out spray for lobby areas, etc.

How about armored trucks backing up to a wall to seal the area between truck and bank, and then both open steel doors so money can be exchanged? The current operation is just short of the wild west days.

These types of crimes cost the taxpayer tons of money, and banks should be taxed extra to help finance FBI services.

    YOUR THOUGHTS

FBI Releases 2011 Bank Crime Statistics: The total 5,093 reported violations represent a decrease from 2010, during which 5,641 violations of the Federal Bank Robbery and Incidental Crimes Statute were reported.

NEW YORK — Federal investigators are searching for three men they say held up an armored truck guard at a Queens bank in broad daylight.

Authorities didn't disclose how much was taken in the robbery that occurred inside an ATM lobby at around noon Friday at a HSBC bank branch in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens.

They say the guard was sprayed with a chemical after making a regularly scheduled pickup at the bank.

If they aren't robbing banks, they will be robbing someone else.

I agree. So what should we do about the banks?

The amount of money stolen from every armored car is insignificant compared to the amount of money stolen from our global economy by Wall Street and the .001%.

What should we do? There isn't much more that can be done. Greed is a basic human emotion and until humans consciously disavow their individual greed, someone is always going to feel that they want more than they have (or need), and robberies will continue.

One way to combat the systemic problem of human greed is to legalize Cannabis Sativa again so that industrial hemp can decentralize the power of production and replace raw materials that are currently controlled by a very wealthy minority. Cannabis was outlawed in America because machinery had finally been introduced that would make hemp production skyrocket, so hemp was demonized as the "dangerous" drug, Marijuana.

Cannabis legalization will transfer the majority of the world's wealth away from rich industrialists back to rural communities and the working class in general, raising the standard of living for virtually every human on Earth. Cannabis hemp can provide renewable transportation fuel, paper, medicine, housing materials, food, textiles, and biodegradable plastic, thus reducing the world's dependence on monopolized petroleum products, forests for paper and lumber, and synthetic pharmaceuticals.

Every teller should be able to own and possess a nuke. Who is going to mess with that bank? Problem solved.

Now, forget about the harm that will be done if the nuke prematurely detonates and wipes out the rest of the town. The bank is safe, right? Problem solved. Sure, this presents another problem, but that's for another thread!

Nothing. It is up to each bank to do their own cost-benefit on that. It is not society's job to force them to do anything.

I think it is because it is the citizens/employees harmed, and the taxpayer footing the bills. I stand by the OP for raising the standards with forced regulations if necessary, raise the standards and make them responsible for costs of running down banksters.

It is a ridiculous position to think that all 100,000 or so bank branches in the US need to be retrofitted with "drop glass" or something that knocks out everybody in the room since the gas itself can be fatal and people will be falling and busting their skulls open to protect pieces of replaceable paper. Not every building can be retrofitted with some kind of armor car loading ramp either. Taxpayers foot the bill for welfare fraud too, so maybe we have bigger fish to fry than the sum total of teller drawer theft.

    Transition entirely to a paper-less, cash-less society.

Great idea! We can all get microchips in our foreheads and our right hands to stop identity theft and to help us worship the beast!

Maybe, but I doubt it. Sounded more like he just wanted to take away our ability to use cash on the pretext of keeping the banksters safe, when they're the only ones who ARE safe, with their bailouts and control of the government.

Some sort of gas delivery system that knocks out everyone in the bank. Let the cops sort them out afterwards. Even if they are wearing masks the police will know that only the bank robbers will be standing up and won't have to worry about friendly fire. This also makes it impossible for them to use anyone as a hostage because they would literally have to carry them out themselves.

If that is to difficult to implement then I suppose have ninja snipers with cloaking devices standing in the corners of the room would suffice.

Yes, some banks might have to have a different security system. Like electronic locked doors & drop glass on the teller windows with knock out gas. IF you as a patron don't want to risk gassing in a bank hold up, do your business at drive up windows. And drive up windows could also be made to exchange the cash from the armored trucks.

Bank robberies, home invasions, muggings, vandalism, "knockouts," burglaries, arsons and murders are epidemic in America, and ninety eight percent of them are committed by thugz with mile-long rapsheets who know they can away with it. Neverthess, the Obama economy is so bad that even a few (about two percent) of bank robberies are being committed by white men. But they're bumbling wimps and either get caught or turn themselves in.

As far as trying to prevent thug violence, there is no solution. The sensible thing to do is to ignore it and suck up the extra expense. After all, thugz have been severely abused, enslaved and mistreated by white people, therefore they should be able to commit whatever heinous crime they want to with impunity. Moreover, most of them are just cute, impish and mischievous young gentlemen anyway

Or we could just use quantum encrypted accounts integrating smart phones and non-magnetically stripped smart cards.

Banks have video cameras, so sorting is no problem. And yes, it stops hostage taking while keeping them confined in that lobby until arrested.

The thumb print or eye scan or DNA breath test, is all that would be needed to ID an account. Two of my pcs use thumb print ID already.

It would take a month of sundays to send all those coins through the drive through and my bank does not have a drive through--it is a building where you have to walk up stairs to get to and I am fairly confident the historical building zealots wouldn't allow them to change a thing. If there was drop down window they could just grab the teller and jerk her/him so they would get squished if the button was hit and the last thing you would want to do is trap some high on adrenaline with a weapon in a room with other people.

Cyber crime makes banks robbery look like small potatoes and banks don't do much about that one (http://krebsonsecurity.com/2010/03/cyber-crooks-leave-bank-robbers-in-the-dust/) if you are worried about thieves, you might would be better off enhancing security on electronic transactions instead of a Novocaine spray in all bank lobbies.
