American justice applies to those who are just toward US. Why would it apply to enemies of US? Or to those who oppose US national interest? If it did, they would differ from every other nation.

People like yourself would like the US to allow you to tie it in ethical knots. Fortunately while US tries to be ethical, it is not going to fall into that obvious trap. You underestimate US people again. They are not as stupid as you like to think.

US may be somewhat intrusive where natural resources are economically important, but give the military, monetary and political power US wields to another less ethical country and see what happens. Do you really think other countries would exercise more restraint or fairness than US? Don't make me laugh. I don't think you should class US people stupid. Sometimes people learn what they need to know. However they, like other civilised countries, are a sleeping giant. It would be a mistake to underestimate the passion they nurse for their country and the potential response should it be under threat.

You're going through a few years of not nice anyway. Would your market die completely if you defaulted? You might have to change allegiance and trade with less economically developed countries if sanctions were applied, but it might teach the financial institutions not to muck about.

Some will say you do deserve this period of not nice regarding debt. Developing nations have been crying for debt to be written off for decades now. Did "civilised" and developed economies rush to write off of the debt for others?
