I was hesitant to comment on this due to it's sheer prejudice.
It's realy no different than asking what kind of Restaurant or food
    is best.What kind of culture.
Some of the best dogs as Man's best friend have been ones that
    were adopted.That's a Fact Jack.
Whether you name yer Dog ... Max or Millie or even
Jack.Who might not be nimble but is very loving.
    That's the key ingredient.
Some of Life's Greatest human beings were not necessarily
    a joy to look at.
Unless Winston Churchill or Benjamin Franklin are yer cup of tea.
    Looks only go so far.

I had a border collie/austrailian shepard mix, with classic b&w border collie markings. Smart, protective, affectionate, but needs a lot of exercise/work.
She lived for 16 years RIP Suki.

It is absoulutely amazing how intelligent they are. This is my second border collie, the first one actually thought he could talk. This one is still a pup 9 months old, he gets more intelligent everyday. The amount of words he alerts to and understands is mind boggling. He has mastered the art of catching balls and frisbees which was easier for him than me..lol. I am still learning to throw the frisbee correctly..

Yes they do require a lot of excercise and they do need a job. Mine has defined one of his jobs as riding on the gator and being the backseat driver. He watches the road with a lot of concentration, the road has his undivided attention, he only takes his eyes off to glance at a rabbit or squirrel.

This is going back a few years . . . our parks ranger had a border collie, and as far as a meeting of minds and a profound mutual affection can be made between man and dog, it was there for all to see. I bumped into him recently (some 8 years later); I knew what the answer was going to be, not only because of the passage of time but also because the dog wasn't with him, but I asked anyway 'How's Ferne?' and the tears welled up in his eyes as he told me the expected bad news.

Actor Mickey Rourke is a Chihuahua lover and rescuer of dogs.
I think he always has a few Chihuahua by his side.Loki, his
longtime pet chihuahua lived to be 18 and was seen being held
by the big lug { Rourke } at many Film Festivals.

Great Farm animal.Very strudy, also.Keep the Cows in line.
About the only breed more athletic is a Jack Russell.
I hold firm with the belief that if there is a Best Breed it would be
the German Shepherd. With many competing breeds like the lovable
    Labrador.

They do have a tendency to make you love them like a family member. My first one died last year, I knew no other dog could take his place except another BC. Their life span isn't very long but what a life span they have.

I had a German Sheppard and he was also very smart, he was very protective of everyone in the family especially my oldest child which was a baby at the time. Raff slept under his crib at night.
