    Hi,

I thought I'd make a thread discussing the best firearms in jurisdictions with restrictive gun laws.

After all, the best chance for reform is for more people to take up shooting.

Generally most Anglosphere nations allow the following categories: bolt action rifles, lever action rifles, double barrel and bolt action shotguns, revolvers and semi-auto pistols (some).

What are your favourites in these categories? I have a soft spot for the Marlin 1894, S&W Model 29, and the Franchi Phoenix.

    Cheers.

Don't have a favorite. We have a few Marlin 30-30's that float around my family. Those are the only one I have ever tried but I am not really a lever action fan. We have a who knows who made it old as dirt double barrel and that is the only one of those I have ever used. I've used many single shot shotguns but no bolt action rifles. When I used to hunt regularly, it was usually dove hunting and I just used a pump action Remington Wingmaster 16 gauge for those. I usually carried the 12 gauge version of the same gun when I would go deer hunting, but I didn't have much interest in ever killing a deer. I kept slugs in my coat pocket in case I changed my mind but I was mainly looking for turkeys under the pretense of deer hunting.

I'm a big fan of lever/revolver combos, primarily because it makes home loading ammo very convenient. I have a marlin lever, Ruger Security six and Chiappa Rhino 4" all in .357 magnum. I chose .357mag because it opens up .38, .38sp, .38+P and .357 as ammo choices, as well as the ability to use 9mm bullets in home loads. Hunting dear with a .357mag would be pretty cruel as it doesnt have the ETtT for a reliably humane kill, but the marlin would be suitable for hunting if necessity became the primary concern, and its accuracy never ceases to amaze me. The Rhino is my carry gun, and tho it takes some work to retrain muscle memory because of its strange ergonomics, the '6-oclock' firing position really does all but eliminate vertical recoil. The Ruger I keep in my 'oh ****' gear just because its stainless and flawlessly reliable. I also had a Ruger SP101 in .357, which was also a great carry gun, but I gave that to my ex (before she was my ex).

A combo I would like to get is the Rossi (or Taurus?) Judge/Circuit Judge combo, a revolver pistol and a revolver carbine both chambered in .45LC/.410shot.

I would recommend a Ruger Scout if you can get your hands on one. Very solid gun. Pretty common. The Mauser bolt is one of the most reliable actions in the world. You probably will only be able to get 5 shot mags for it but a 308 round to an intruders torso will do the trick just fine. Its also a reliable hunting rifle should you ever need to hunt for yourself. Its sort of a jack of all trades rifle master of none. Short and light. If you have alot of scratch then maybe look at a STEYR scout if you can. Pretty sure that would be considered legal but that's the top end for that type of rifle.

How restrictive are we talking about?

In California for example, you can't carry a handgun with more than a ten round magazine. In that case, a Glock 26 (9mm) is a good, versatile choice.

If the laws are so restrictive that you cannot carry a concealed handgun, then there are many handguns, semis and revolvers, that are physically larger than the G26 that are good choices for home defense.

A 12 guage pump shotgun is a very versatile firearm.

If a rifle with a semi-automatic action is banned, then a lever action is a good alternative. I own a Browning 92 in .357 caliber. It's a lever action rifle, and .357 is a versatile cartridge.

Best answer would be to move out of the restrictive jurisdiction into someplace with little or no gun laws.
    Alaska for one.

Take my chances with bears. Better then street thugs in Chicago. Like my friend Woody who lives in Dutch Harbor just make sure you carry and carry big every time you leave your house.

I've never had a problem with thugs myself and I used to deal with them for around 35 years in the black market and I never carried.

I guess they aren't a threat, then. All those young Black men being murdered by other Black men are simply faking it.

It's not, directly. But politicians have a much harder time restricting things a large percentage of the population enjoy.

That's not the easiest thing to do at the moment, what with the global pandemic and all.

I will probably get dual citizenship someday, but until then and for those who are unable to move, there's a lot of fun to be had with lever and bolt actions.

People that shoot tend tend to vote against gun control.

I’d guess that the 75 people who will get shot this weekend in Chigaco would disagree.same with the 40 in Detroit.
