What is your best / favourite restaurant and if you can, post a link I am originally from the UK and it would be a tie between: The Fat Duck http://www.thefatduck.co.uk/ and Hambleton Hall http://www.hambletonhall.com/ Here in WA it is a tie between Vasse Felix http://www.vassefelix.com.au/visit/restaurant/ and Amuse http://www.restaurantamuse.com.au/

Those do look like nice restaurants (Dujac and VeryStormy). Unfortunately---we avoid the nice, nice restaurants and go for the consistently good chains, especially since we got the kiddos---Outback (never have been disappointed), and PeiWei. http://www.outback.com/ http://www.peiwei.com
I have not travelled very much in the US - Disney in Florida only, which doesnt really count, but i always thought restaurants in the US, including fine dining were very family orientated? In Oz, they are for lunch, though its pretty much an adult only event on an evening. The UK is not as family friendly
Most restaurants are family friendly. Where I live...not an extremely small place... I can think of only one....very upscale..jacket required restaurant where I live where children are not welcome. And that place reminds me of the restaurants you mentioned. Frankly I don't think we have alot of fine, fine truely upscale places where I live.
For me, it's all about who makes the best Chicken Gumbo. Historically, it was Commanders Palace in New Orleans, LA when I lived near there. It changed to Ted's on Main in Medford, NJ until it closed. I would say that the best gumbo in the Philadelphia area nowadays is a dive bar called the Khyber Pass Pub.
I've never been to any fine dining places, or anywhere that requires semi-formal/formal attire. I like a nice steak restaruant the best. The best I know is Logan's Roadhouse. A little expensive, at around 20 to 30 bucks for a steak dinner, but well worth it. Last time I had a 22 ounce porterhouse. Very nicely cooked. They are family friendly, if not specifically family oriented, and buckets of salted peanuts, in the shells, at each table as an on-the-house appetizer.
That is the point. A metaphor for life. Is the ultimate driving machine worth twice the price of a Honda Civic Si despite having only a 20 % improvement in acceleration and handling? Likewise, is the ultimate meal that tastes 10 % better justified over a good meal that costs half of the price? For most, the answer should be NO. For those that can afford it, have at it.
great restaurants bear little to no resemblance to cars
