I love this entire thread. I think Ron Paul would actually be funny if he hadn't fooled the impressionable among us into voting for him. Sort of like the elderly Andy Koffman of our generation, only less funny and more scary(because you know he actually believes the nonsense he says).

I totally think Ron Paul ought to wrestle Chris Christie.

 

Not saying it got him anything....but I don't understand how one could say he was supported by Al Queda or whatever, when he obviously had so much support from our own troops.

 

Terrorists favored Paul because of his ridiculous isolationist ideas to end all foreign aid and to withdraw all US troops to the CONUS.

 

Ya..actually, these wars we're involved in are creating more problems and putting us in more danger.

 

I disagree. Had we not gone into Iraq and Afghanistan al Qaeda would retain its ability to launch additional attacks on a scale with 911. Instead al Qaeda has been reduced to attempted low casualty yield attacks, many of which have failed and its command structure is in tatters.

That said, we have a commitment to support our allies and project our presence as the most powerful country in the world. As Theodore Roosevelt said, "Walk softly but carry a big stick."

 

What did going to Iraq have anything to do with stopping Al Queda.

The problem with this war is that we are reckless over there. We kill tons of civilians and us doing that causes the once innocent people to be pissed at us and it encourages them to join the anti-american insurgency movement.

Just think how you would feel if China started flying helicopters over our land and shooting at innocent people just because of the actions of some extremists over here?

 

The insurgency was actively supported by al Qaeda in Iraq.

War is inherently reckless. Always has been. And when you say "...tons of civilans" precisely how many are you referring to?

The Taliban and al Qaeda intentionally target civilians including children. We don't.

If those extremists were openly based and training in the United States and they launched attacks against China and the United States did nothing to prevent those terrorists from attacking China then China would have every right to retaliate.

But the reality is that such a situation doesn't exist. But it didin Afghanistan.

 

1. Al Queda wasn't in Iraq before we invaded
2. I don't know the exact number, but the civilian death count was already in the 100,000s in 2004 I believe.
3. So...if a random Chinese helicopter killed someone you love, for something you or them didn't have anything to do with...you would feel no remorse or anti-chinese feelings?
