https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/08/politics/joe-biden-defund-the-police/index.html I understand the concept of defunding the police and I can generally get behind the concept of diverting more funds from the police to social services and things like better housing options, but the "Defund the Police" has a terrible messaging in the slogan. To the lay person, it sounds like they want to abolish the police and that is definitely not the concept. Biden's decision follows immediately (and almost certainly partially because of) polling that shows very little support for the slogan and because of reports that Trump's campaign thought they could push the concept onto Biden with a hope that it would alienate Biden's base.
After seeing the polling for this you will watch the lefty politicians run from this dumb idea then claim it never happened. In two months you can search for it on google and it'll magically be gone all together as if the discussion never happened.
Biden will bend to the will of the radical left that is diving the DNC. He maybe be saying this now, because of polling...but make no mistake, he will flip flop on a dime and push defunding of the police. The left has supported the terrorist the past week, they do not support or care about the safety our first responders.
No, they will just adjust the messaging to match the one from Biden. Fund social services and provide better direction for the funding that goes to police.
Our infrastructure in general is terribly lacking, but we didn't need this incident to reflect on that. And if we want to reflect on that, we can reflect on Speaker Pelosi's tantrum that killed the infrastructure bills. It didn't stop the Democratic Caucus from later spending on the stimulus, that did even less for the American economy and created even fewer jobs. We don't need to take from local police funds, to accomplish national policy goals. We just need a national party that cares about those goals and the "discussion" that people really don't want to have is that the Democratic Party is not that party. Asked to step up to the plate, Democrats always fall woefully short.
I would love to see prisons defunded. Remove all laws other than those that involve a victim and there will be a lot less for police to do.
It's a confusing thing a statement like "defund the police"..... We obviously need police so maybe the statement should've been "demilitarize the police".
we let people sue the police force and officer and that should end the abuse imo it would cause good cops to police bad cops
I agree the police hold too much sway in the courts. Rarely do their unethical or even illegal acts be properly adjudicated juxtaposed with the average person.
there goes the Black and the young radical fringe vote Biden was already having difficulty shoring up the Black vote thanks to his Crime bill that was responsible for the mass incarceration's of Blacks and his remark that "you aint black" didn't help either Now this Biden was put between a rock and a hard place its why it took him so long to give a response I'm sure they had to do a lot of poll testing to determine which choice would hurt him the least Biden had a choice of either 1) shore up the black vote appeasing the democrat parties radical base and support defund the police but in return make him unelectable with the vast majority of the public or 2) alginate the Black activist and radical base losing their enthusiasm and support so to remain electable Just going to say one thing Biden best not do any town hall meeting in any black communities because of his frailty and not being able to handle criticism without going off the deep end pointing fingers in peoples faces calling them names like fats and liars and even changeling them in physical altercations
You people are so ridiculous. You think the police have a problem and the way to solve that problem is less money that's going to make the problem worse. I'm glad to hear Titans handlers are keeping him from saying absolutely insane things most of the time but that's going to alienate part of the left.
no it would end people even dreaming wanting to become the police thier would be a mass exodus and no way to fill the ranks who would want such a low pay over worked job which you risk your life daily that would also require you to pay a lawyers retainer and spend half your time in civil court fighting every false allegation from every arrest you made
I have supreme doubts about the theory that Biden refusing to endorse "defund the police" would suddenly result in a significant percentage of the black voters or the more radical left from showing up to vote for Biden especially since there are still five months to go and a choice for someone like Kamala Harris would go a long way to reaffirm their support for him.
look I'm sure every profession from doctors to lawyers to fireman to police have racist in thier ranks its a given and all we can do is get rid of them when their racism is exposed but the best way to weed out bad cops is to get rid of or reign in the police unions which protect these cops by making it next to impossible to fire them till they commit a crime
Only 33% of African Americans support reduce funding for police departments. And that is probably the highest that number will ever get. https://docs.cdn.yougov.com/s23agrrx47/20200531_yahoo_race_and_justice_crosstabs.pdf
Kamala Harris has a worse record then Biden does when it comes to locking up Blacks see your counting Blacks blind obedience to vote democrat no matter what when many blacks are beginning to question democrats for thier lack of results the Charlamagne interview showed that and you seen how flustered Biden got trying to defend the lack of results so much so he questioned black folks blackness as a response
