So, I turn on TV today and there is President Biden POSITIVELY DROOLING over Francis Collins, NIH Director. Apparently the guy is quitting his job. Biden went on and on and on! It was so overdone that I began wonder what is this? Seemed like either begging a favor (i.e. please please Francie I love you and I'll keep loving you on national TV if you won't saying anything about China-things) or a possible agreement (i.e. I'm singing your praises "Doc" as agreed, and now you will keep your end of the agreement). Did anyone else watch this and find it bizarre?
It is not uncommon for a president to honor an outstanding retiring scientist, who was instrumental in establishing the human genome project, and who dedicated his later years to public service as NIH Director. Of course, the Fauci haters may descend on Collins next, because he was Fauci's boss. Oh, wait, he was re-nominated as NIH Director by Trump and is a born-again Christian, so he is probably safe.
Ok, fine, but all that was necessary was to acknowledge that he served honorably (assuming he did), thank him and announce his replacement. This was sort of sickening.
Maybe you'll feel differently when you retire after decades of service and the person announcing it says three words about you and then quickly moves on to the next item on the agenda.
Haha when I retired, they just put out a memo and left it at that! In all seriousness, several Biden admin. workers have stepped down and this is the only one I've seen him drool over. Maybe I've just missed the previous drooling.
I can't think of a single person I know who has retired, who even wanted THAT much 'fanfare'. They all wanted a quiet finish of their last day, escaping the building without fuss. I propose that those who need fanfare are either a) career-types in it for the status/glory/power, or b) raving narcissists.
This coming from the party which made a statue of their beloved president that was made in China LOL!!!
