"I stand squarely behind my decision," Biden said about his decision to pull troops out of Afghanistan, during a prepared speech at the White House.

Afghan security forces dissolved as the Taliban raced to Kabul in a matter to days. Protesters blocked access to the airport as the U.S. scrambled to get its people out of the country.

At one point, dozens of supporters jogged beside and in front of a military transport plane, trying to prevent it from taking off. Some clung to the plane itself and fell to their deaths as it ascended.

Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said it was "an embarrassment for our country and a victory for terrorists around the world."

McConnell said the US has "abandoned the women and children of Afghanistan to these barbarians," and left behind thousands of Afghan allies. "We turned our backs on our friends and left the country in chaos."

'I stand squarely behind my decision': Biden defends handling of Afghanistan as Taliban seizes Kabul, USA Today, August 16, 2021

Wow, looks like some of those people were desperate to escape the Taliban and didn't want American forces to leave.

I don't think anyone is going to be building a statue of Biden out of thanks.

Ofcourse he stands by his decision, he doesn't care about the thousands of people dying do to his RECKLESS actions.

His entire presidency has been plagued with failure after failure.

    Gas prices are up

    inflation

    World peace progress ruined

    already bombing other countries

And now this...our allies having their heads cut off because he couldn't even allow air support to help them sustain. We should have never been there but now that we were there we had an obligation to help those who have come to rely on us and instead we aabandoned them to their deaths.

Racist joe has got to go.

As well he should. Who in their right mind thought that Afghanistan withdrawal would go differently. The speed of the Taliban take over may have been underestimated by those advising Biden but the Taliban's relevance has been growing in that region for almost a decade. Trump and Pompeo were going to host them last year at Camp David, why the hell were they going to do that? Because, they knew the relevance of the Taliban and that they were going to be relevant in the future of Afghanistan. The Taliban have had since last November to prepare for America's withdrawal, the Afghani "government" had 20 years to prepare for the Taliban.

Like I said in another thread, if it only takes 2500 troops to keep worldwide terrorism down to a minimum, then maybe the rest of the world should have been forced to take 6 month shifts in that dump. There's no reason why many European and Asian countries couldn't spare 2500 troops for 6 months.

Washington (CNN)Former President Donald Trump on Sunday praised withdrawing US troops from Afghanistan, while knocking his successor's timeline for doing so.

Though the former President offered his support of President Joe Biden's plans to bring home American troops, he urged his successor to draw an end to America's longest war well before the September 11 deadline that Biden set last week. Trump said that while leaving Afghanistan is "a wonderful and positive thing to do," he had set a May 1 withdrawal deadline and added that "we should keep as close to that schedule as possible."
    https://www.cnn.com/2021/04/18/politics/trump-afghanistan-troop-withdrawal/index.html

The previous president wanted us out May 1.
Most everyone who supported the other former president supported the withdrawal of troops and many used that as a decision to vote for him.
Now they don't want the USA to leave after 20 yrs.
    Just no satisfying some.

As if he is even capable of making a decision.

This is what the Democrats running the administration did to Afghanis that were on our side.

That should haunt us all. We all didn't do enough to get the right leadership. Hey Democrats, if you chose Tulsi Gabbard, you would have had competent leadership... instead of this **** show.

Was Tulsi gonna make their army competent or was she gonna make the Taliban trustworthy?

Does all this Republican outrage mean they’ll help us welcome as many Afghan refugees as can come?

Good find. Just two months ago, the Trumpers all cheered the withdrawal. However, in the last couple of days they all of a sudden became experts in Afghanistan matters and now claim that our troops should have stayed. You can't make this stuff up. Their opinion sways with the wind, depending on what day it is and what the daily brain diarrhea of their leader spits out.

No one thing gives us world peace, but under Trump we were far closer to it than with reckless racist joe who now has blood on his hands.

    Yawn.

Gee, another “Biden bad” thread from the fans of the orange orangutan.

Say, didn’t he start the final phase of this withdrawal?

I wonder if Bannon will start asking for donations from Trump supporting rubes to keep a private security force in Afghanistan.

Trump failed to end the war, Biden is doing what Trump promised but failed to deliver on.

I resoundingly agree (second part). Why the burden was shifted fully to the US, I have no idea. When terrorism was rife it was all through Europe as well.
