    Hi,

So, I can't get a link to the news article because my phone is recharging, but I saw an article on there that Biden's White House is telling states and local governments that if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling that funding for Medicaid, school child lunch aid for the poor, and Social Security payments will all be withheld when the Federal Government defaults.

I think in a default the Federal Government gets to pick and choose what stuff gets funded and what stuff get's put on hold. So, I think that Biden wants to go nuclear and pick stuff that will make the most impact on vulnerable populations: the elderly, hungry children, and the poor. I think it's sick.

    Biden's debt default

    Don't you mean McConnell's?

Anyway, it's Kabuki theater. The ceiling will be lifted or catastrophe will ensue.

Then default would be a decision, not a necessity. Government can and should spend less thereby reducing the need for debt.

I is marxist to be sure.

First of all, there will not be a default, because one political Party still has adults running it. Worst case scenario, the Dems will pass it under the rules for Reconciliation.

Secondly, if there were a default, it would be fallacious of you to call it, "Biden's debt default;" it would be completely the responsibility of the Republican Party, which is vowing to vote against raising our debt ceiling, which is what allows us to sell the government bonds, etc., to pay our bills, including paying off our obligations to those who've previously purchased T-bills, & so forth. In other words, many of the debts that the Republicans are refusing to make good on, are for things they voted for, during the Trump Administration. It appears Trump's proclivity to try to skip out on his bills, has also, now, become part of the Republican ethos.

Again, if you are under the impression that Pres. Biden would want a default, you are terribly misled: no sane politician would want this, unless they were an enemy of our country. This raising of our debt ceiling in the legislature, in order, essentially, to pay for things that had previously been approved by Congress, is something unique to our own system. The result is that the minority party sometimes tries to use it as a bargaining chip. But everyone understands the catastrophic consequences of default, so it has always been approved by Congress, when it has periodically arisen. That Republicans are vowing to vote against it, regardless of anything else, is an unmistakable sign that they are unqualified to run a government. McConnell is doing this ONLY because he knows that Dems will not allow a default, sending world financial markets tumbling, & indelibly marring the U.S. reputation for credit-worthiness. That he would even put all this at risk, for a partisan, political show, is unconscionable.

    Yes. You are correct.

Democrats control Congress and the Presidency and if they can't work together Biden is threatening cut off Medicaid, school lunch aid, Social Security and default on the US debt. Biden should probably be impeached for this.

Interest on the debt is 5.3% of Federal spending. Biden could easily continue to make these obligations with the remaining 94.7% of the funds, but he wants to show that he's insane and so shouldn't be messed with. Too bad he couldn't work up some of this aggression for the Taliban. But Biden is a coward most comfortable with attacking Americans and more powerless Americans are even better.

Biden will either work out a compromise with his fellow democrat or back down from his threats in exchange for an extra scoop of pudding.

Meghan McCain is surprised to find that Biden is the same incompetent gasbag that Biden has been for 50 years.

It’s All Falling Apart for Biden and Democrat Leadership in D.C.

They lurch from one disaster to the next.

And Biden's a liar. There will be no default. Debt service is just over 5% of Federal spending, a 5.5% reduction in spending while Dems figure out how to get 50 Dems on board is all that's needed. They may have to tap some travel and entertainment budgets, but this crap about DEFAULT! is great example of why Biden has a fifty year reputation as a lying gasbag.
The measure needs all 50 Democrat votes to pass the Senate with Kackling Kamala's tie breaker. Republicans in the Senate chamber have dug in and refuse to budge on supporting either a debt increase or a continuing resolution funding the government as long as Dems are still trying to pass a ridiculous spending orgy that will make inflation even worse, but, they have enough Democrats without the GOP so they refuse to compromise.
Wheels are coming off the Democrats clown car.

This is absolutely President Biden's default. He is the one who decided which programs to cut. Not Mitch McConnell. He is showing off a disaster just like Obama did with the closure of National parks and Veterans Memorials way back when.

1st it will only happen if the Dems refuse to do a clean kicking of the can down the road. 2nd It's the standard democrat stock in trade, when all else fails fear monger like there no tomorrow and blame the other guy for your intransigence.
