I don't think the justification for slavery can get any stronger.

 

Why do you liberals hate America and the American military?

 

A long, long thread filled up mainly by an assortment of conservative/tea party/GOP/true patriots defending slavery and explaining that it really wasn't all that bad and certainly no worse than the US military...............yes, it is one of the great mysteries of life why blacks and other racial minorities don't vote GOP. Truly puzzling.

 

It's pretty likely that slaves were used to build the White House. It's highly unlikely that the White House was solely built with slave labor.

So, Michelle Obama was 50% correct.

Out of all the important and damming news that has just come out, you pick some story which has absolutly no bearing other than being a distraction to talk about? Is that right? We all came from slaves and slavers. Sorry you don't like that fact of history. I found a couple of ancestors of mine who owned slaves in a recent genealogy search. That made me feel a bit POd, because my ancestors were poor, and I'd always taken the "my ancestors didn't own slaves" high ground. Then there were my family who came over as indentured servants, and some who were -actual- slaves in the past. It's a mixed bag. The lesson to learn is that's not how we live today, and blessedly so. Can we all kumbayah on that? Guess not, as long as there are 200 year old axes to grind. Sad.

All I am doing is what Mrs. Obama did and be entirely honest about both my time in the Army along with giving more details than Obama gave.

Being in the Army is not like working for the Post Office or highway department.

I honor the military in fact and may have got more out of the experience than I put in.

 

The reason for the Revolutionary War was so that the slavers like Washington & Jefferson could keep their slaves and get rich off of their labor. The English abolished slavery in their colonies. And when Washington & Jefferson won they wrote slavery into the Constitution.

 

The actual cluelessness of modern racists are amazing.

Aside from 15 hours days, garbage for food and the whim for whipping and sadistic "fun" sometimes just for fun, I wonder how many these "Army days" had your wives and children to be used for sex of ANY kind of perverted and abusive desire, and getting the women and girls pregnant was considered a good way to engender loyalty to the children.

Not to mention that if the GI's women and girls got pregnant from your officers and had babies, those children could be sold or given as awards or profitt

Americans did own slaves but had the right idea for freedom, that is what made America great.

bill o reilly described the democratic plantation where they give you handouts in exchange for losing your freedom, bill is a racist for suggesting slaves rightly gave up their freedom in exchange for being well fed.

Reading from the so called "news sources" without bothering to check out whether their confirmation bias was a (pardon the pun) a factor sums up the attacks in this thread. Of course, they were well fed. Strong slaves means more money/profits for the slave owners! Today, the new slaves, for the owners, are temp workers and prison workers. Slavery was instituted to create, within the American colonies, economies of scale throughout the colonies. Human beings were literally human capital (by its strict definition of the term).

No award but also no attack for correctly reporting on history. The purpose served is the communication of an accurate historical record. A great many of the "Founding Fathers" were completely against slavery. Some were not. The 3/5 compromise was necessary for the establishment of the United States. It included a provision that slave imports would cease in the very early 1800's and that was overwhelmingly confirmed by vote. It is a given that slavery is an abomination (O'Reilly's words) but the workers involved in the construction of the White House were treated humanely. That is the historical fact. Communicating that fact in no way condones slavery as the dishonest and left biased press has reported that O'Reilly did.
