Bill O'Reilly says slaves were well fed

Its like saying in nazi germany the trains ran on time. They did. But to say that fact and leave out the horrors the nazis committed in the same breath implies admiration for them.

 

Nothing is implied. But I do indeed admire the Founding Fathers.

 

I admire some things about the founders but they were not gods....they failed in many ways

 

Anyone over the age of 10 knows that, surely.

 

Those are facts and all, that's fine but the average person now won't care because well fed slaves were still slaves.

 

Certainly - slavery is an abomination.

 

Then don't talk about how well fed they were.....its like saying holocaust victims got a free train ride.

It's historically accurate and goes to the conditions under which the work on the WH was done. The trains were death trains.

 

Where did he say he approved of them being slaves? You also missed the pun. If your well fed and housed it will make you feel better. It wont make me feel better about slavery. It will make me feel better that they were well treated but not to the point I condone it.

 

You have to give it to O'reilly, he knows his audience. Things like this are what cowardly, geriatric white dudes love to hear.

 

Of course all slaves were well fed, not just the ones who built the White House. They were very valuable. They had to be strong as workers in the cotton and tobacco fields.

And they were better off than the African Blacks that got left behind in Africa. Slavery was the best thing that ever happened to American Blacks.

 

How does this make anyone cowardly? Im no big fan of Bill. I think he is full of himself. The only real question is why did he point out they were well fed and housed ? If you want to get technical Michelle lied when she claimed it was built by slaves. It was built with the help of slaves not merely by slave labor. I for one was surprised to find out any slaves did in fact help build it. Its funny here he was defending Michelle and he gets attacked by the left.

 

This is the dangerous thing that happens when you start talking about well fed slaves. It moves from an abomination to the best thing that ever happened to them. I wonder when they were being raped did they realize this was the best thing that ever happened to them

 

That would depend upon who was doing the raping. It's not like rape wasn't happening in Africa during their incessant tribal wars.

That's basically what this amounts to.

So slavery was a humanitarian program?

 

No, not the Africans that were "left behind" back then. It depends on where they came from but slavery had not yet totally ruined most of Africa in the late 18th century. The major reason that Africa is as badly off as they are now continues to be because of the depredations of slavery and colonialism. It's unlikely any area of the world would recover completely from such pillaging for at least as long as its was done, that is, about 500 years, and probably more. Your statement is like saying the Holocaust is the best thing that ever happened to Jews because now they have Israel.

O'Reilly has made a good career out of being the dumb loudmouth in the bar, the guy who mutters into his beer all day and occasionally starts a fight for no perceivable reason. He's like Limbaugh, a failed sports "color" man, who realized he could make a million by just being as stupidly insensitive as he really was for his whole act instead of just letting it keep him on the lower levels of his profession.

 

I'm not going to be drug down into your spin. Truth is you cant really talk honestly about these things without walking on eggshells. Until then I think it better to use current events as a guide to the reality of things.
