Bill O'Reilly says slaves were well fed

My Lord! What a cold-hearted attitude, as bad as O'Reilly himself! The were slaves! They were human beings who were bought and sold! They were forcibly separated from their families. The women were raped or bred with male slaves with whom they had no relationship. Does getting a good breakfast compensate a person for being treated as someone else's property?

Well yes. All one has to do is read the diary of William Byrd II, a slave owner BTW. In his diary it states

New Jersey had a total of 16 slaves when the 13th amendment was passed. It actually abolished slavery in 1804 but unfortunately there was a policy of gradual emancipation. It ratified the 13th amendment in Jan 1866.

The key word here is "appears." However, the context of what Bill O'Reilly said displayed the type of arrogance that slavery is being condoned. And of all the things that Mrs. Obama made in her speech, Bill O'Reilly had to come up with this **** because he likes to tell a good yarn and intentionally leave out a bunch of other things that puts slavery into the proper perspective.

There is a huge difference between involuntary servitude, which was predominant in the late 17th and early 18th century and the use of African slaves and their treatment by their masters who believed they were subhuman at best in the remaining 18th to mid 19th centuries until the end of the Civil War.

 

Lincoln's plan was to force the South to come back to the Union. When his troops were dying in high numbers he got desperate and threatened to free the slaves if the Confederates didn't surrender. In 1863 when he freed only the slaves south of the border states, those slaves weren't free unless they made it beyond the Mason-Dixon line. With the majority of Confederates who didn't own slaves and were fighting for states rights weren't distracted and pulled off course to chase down slaves they didn't own, Lincoln's "collateral damage for slaves" plan failed. His ultimate goal, when it was all said and done, was to ship slaves back to Liberia or to uninhabited parts of America on the west coast where Native Americans flourished. Lincoln said blacks were inferior and couldn't intermingle with the white race. That's why it's so ironic when blacks and liberals celebrate him and call him "the Great Emancipator." Personally, I have zero love for Lincoln but that could be because of the Confederate blood in me.

Well at least I got you to look it up. Most Yankee sympathizers are totally ignorant of that. Some don't even know that there was slavery in the North.

 

Technically the Civil War didn't end slavery. The 13th Amendment ended traditional slavery on December 6, 1865, but slavery is still legal in America as long as it's the State that is the slave owner.

 

It is wrong according to everyone that has ever learned anything about history. You made the case....it is you that must back it up

 

As wrong as slavery was, and still is today, you can't judge a man from 1850 by today's standards. The truth may be cold hearted, but that doesn't mean the messenger is. Lighten up, bucko, it's factual history. You don't mind Michelle and Barack talking about slavery all the time, why do you care when someone else does?

 

The main difference bewteen the North and the South was that the North wanted to deport all black people and the South wanted to import millions more. The Civil War resulted in a compromise. Everyone ended up keeping the ones they had and the South stopped importing new ones until WWI.

Well nobody ever said they were all treated fairly. You've cited one, and I'm sure if you dig hard enough you can cite a few more, but most slaves were never whipped or beaten. Not to mention these same people beat their kids in the same manner for the same reasons, you people just don't mention that because that's not the focus.

 

Well, technically, blacks would still be in Africa, likely in a tribe eating other humans if their people hadn't sold them out to America. Take that how you will, I already know how your mind will spin.

 

Michelle and Barack Obama talk against slavery. They don't try to justify slavery by claiming that the slaves were well fed (which is an undocumented claim at any rate.)

You also got the date wrong. In 1792, when construction of the White House was begun, many people realized that enslaving other human beings was immoral including its first resident, President John Adams, who moved into the White House in 1800. He was vehemently anti-slavery.

I will lighten up as soon as you bring your imagined "factual history" in line with what really happened.

 

Slavery got the Negroes out of Africa.

We taught them how to wear clothing. Eat with a knife and fork, their first written language ever. We taught them how to cultivate their first crops ever even though they came from some of the most fertile lands on earth. We civilized them.

No slave ever was allowed to kill another slave. They were too valuable. Guess how many free blacks will murder each other this week? No really take a guess...

 

Same thing the obama's do when they talk about slavery.

As far as subhuman treatment, all whites treated blacks that way until the mid 19th century. Not just slave owners.

 

Where would the majority of blacks in America be if not for slavery? They'd be as populous as Asian Americans if not even less populated in America.

 

Anyone who spins it that slavery was the best thing that happened to the black man is nuts. But that's where statements like O'Reilleys leads to.

That's factually wrong. The slave trade had been over for years before the Civil War began. Why do you think slave owners made slaves reproduce? Lincoln wanted them deported because he didn't like blacks and didn't want them intermingling. Make sure you give him a big shout out when his birthday rolls around... I sure as hell won't.
