Many different opinions about 'Bitcoin' have been floating around for several years. I remember people buying the fastest, most powerful AMD (ATI) video cards for their computers so that they could "mine" Bitcoins more quickly. Other than that, it seemed merely to be a novelty, based on speculation and fantasy.

Now, it appears that along with recent efforts by Russia, China, and others to unseat the U. S. Dollar's dominance in the world, Bitcoin seems to have enjoyed a rocky, but overall meteoric rise in value. I respect Max Keiser greatly... he has been a bright beam of insight in the murky, often occluded world of real news about the economies of the world, and the U. S. in particular.

I would very much like to hear comments from this Forum's better-informed analysts of economies and commentators about Bitcoin, and particularly, Bitcoin versus the U. S. Dollar, the British Pound, and the euro. These three currencies are manipulated entirely by a klatsch of central banks -- the USD by the Federal Reserve, the Pound by the Bank of England, and the euro by the European Central Bank. Like Bitcoin, the values of these official currencies are also 'based on speculation and fantasy'. Although I have no plans whatever to get into Bitcoin speculation, I would like to know what others here think....

This could have enormous impact on all of us -- especially if (IF) the whole Bitcoin phenomenon is itself a clever scheme by the central bankers themselves to remove the dollar from "reserve-currency" status and replace it with something that will further "internationalize" all economies in the world.

I am no economist, so I don't understand how this Bitcoin thing is happening. Fun to watch, but I don't really understand it.

It seems ripe for a rather spectacular crash IMO.

Bitcoin is great and highly useful...if you want to buy heroin, pay for a hitman, traffic in underage Thai hookers, or purchase a container of Kalashnikovs that “fell off a truck”.

You can do all those things with cash or other instruments. I don't see the advantage of the Bitcoin, but that's just me.

RT is a foreign agent. Take their reports with this caveat.

Max Keiser isn't a stooge for anyone. He is just as likely to take on Russia as he is any other country. That's part of what I like about him. As for RT itself? I take it with 'a grain of salt' -- just like I do the other mainstay for my daily news, Fox....

I've followed Max Keiser for years, though -- and honestly, so far I haven't seen him make big mistakes yet.

My greater worry, though is not Bitcoin, per se ... it's the very real possibility that the world's central banks could use the Bitcoin phenomenon to stage a big international depression which would destroy the values of all currencies -- leading to the much-heralded, much-dreaded 'currency reissue' that's been speculated about in conspiracy-theory circles for many years. Could that new currency be Bitcoin -- given that it would be creation of the central banks?! And, no, Keiser is not predicting a 'currency reissue' at this time, but, I wouldn't put anything past a conspiratorial combine of internationalist central bankers....

These central bankers are growing desperate. They created a monster with all the imaginary money they flooded the world with after 2007, while artificially suppressing interest rates to near-zero. They took on piles of near-worthless "toxic assets" to save the stock markets and the big players -- but now, despite all their efforts, the economies are still just barely inching forward, fueled by little more than occasional novelties and more "fraud-balloon" techniques. Are they actually the ones behind Bitcoin...?

RT is usually pursuing a RU state agenda. Not discrediting Max or his side kick but you still have to view RT in that context.

I do take RT, and Fox, with 'a grain of salt'. And, perhaps more than anything else, I watch everything that the Federal Reserve System, the Bank of England, and the European Central Bank does like a HAWK!

Bitcoin? Lulz. Waste. If I can't pay my bills with it, I don't care for it.

Bitcoin is a total joke. Yes, it is worth a whole slew of already fictitious dollars, but at the end of the day, I won't waste one form of currency on another, especially one that doesn't appeal to me.

I have no interest in ever "investing" in bitcoin.

    Property, land, that's an investment.

but its appealing to a heck of a lot of more folks every day and more companies stores are starting too except it, you can't put your head in the sand about its power and whos really behind it, because you will be run down by the owner/s of it they will make you give up that land or pay a heavy fee, because you will be seen as a threat to its future earnings, so you must learn its next moves your competitor and its weakness. i think its now AI the super computer gaining control of it with a few others.

Total nonsense. Many legitimate businesses offer Bitcoin as a payment option.

Not surprised to see a "libertarian" like you fearmongering against a non-Government controlled form of currency, though.

It is appreciating rapidly for now, but it is volatile. It'll go through some crashes, but some bubbles as well. I do worry seeing so many people investing too much of their portfolio in it, especially while its value is high, the same way they do with gold from time to time. I'll be investing a little bit in it when prices fall again. Diversify, buy low, sell high. Those rules pretty much hold no matter what you are investing in.

Nah, you can buy other stuff with Bitcoin. Bitcoin is just popular for more . . . illicit uses because it is easier to use anonymously.
