JERUSALEM (AP) — Booms and air raid sirens sounded across Israel early Sunday after Iran launched hundreds of drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles in an unprecedented revenge mission that pushed the Middle East closer to a regionwide war.

The attack marked the first time Iran has launched a direct military assault on Israel, despite decades of enmity dating back to the country’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Condemnation from the United Nations chief and others was swift, with France saying Iran “is risking a potential military escalation,” Britain calling the attack “reckless” and Germany saying Iran and its proxies “must stop it immediately.”

The Israeli military’s spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said Iran fired scores of drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles — with the vast majority intercepted outside Israel’s borders. He said warplanes intercepted over 10 cruise missiles alone, also outside Israeli airspace.

Israel wants to drag America into this war. That is why they bombed an embassy and killed two Iranian generals. Iran had to respond of course and this was the response. They struck a military target in Israel. Biden is now talking about a response to Iran's response. This could go very badly for the world very quickly. It the G7 leaders want to do a response, they should send their kids and loved ones to do the response and leave the rest of us out of it.

Makes Iran look impotent. Virtually none got through and the 2 that did caused no damage. This isn't uncommon for the system to ignore errant shots which pose no threat of damage.

This may be used as an excuse for Israel to deal a blow on Iran. Iran does not possess missile defense capabilities beyond air-to-air targeting.

The building attacked is described by Isreal as a "consulate", and they say it did not have diplomatic status. Still, it seems a major reach to attack such a facility.
The reason for the attack was a meeting of key officers of what is called the "Quds Force". The Quds Force is a paramilitary and intelligence wing of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG). The IRCG was set up by the leader of the Islamic Revolution and Iran’s first Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, in 1979. Same guy who put out hits on a British author because the book offended him.

It would seem logical to assume that Israel's motivation was to crush a plot in the planning stage. While we don't know for sure what was happening, we do know the Israelis do their homework well and consider their decisions carefully. You can bet this was no exception.
