...and returning to paper ballots, or hiring out to some other electronic voting firm?

We had and wanted paper ballots and hand counting but the state said no. We have to go with a different electronic firm unfortunately. Getting away from dominion was the best we can do right now. Hopefully it will start a big trend among red counties in blue states.

Nope. It's hilarious. Actions like these are the entire basis for Dominion's Law suits against conservatives. Dominion actually will make more money
by having idiots like these cancel their contracts as it's absolute proof that lies told about Dominion by Fox News et al, have been harmful
to their business. Go Dominion. Sue the crap out of these guys.

Election integrity is important. It's sad that folks think doing things like this is going to improve it. When they still lose on paper ballots, what is next to be banned or instituted? Will you require poll tests to prove you pay attention to politics? Should we bring back the policy that only landowners can vote? What are the next steps when banning a voting machine company doesn't cause the elections to go in your favor?

Because there will be a next step. These policies are not being made to "protect democracy", they are being made because those making the policies are unhappy with the idea that people may vote for politicians and parties that aren't them. So when this step fails, they will find a next one. And a next one. And a next one.

    No there aren't.

They think they know but they don't actually know.

If you want to win more elections, come up with some better candidates and maybe throw in a few policies for good measure.

I think what we see here is the power of bad rhetoric and MAGA propaganda over people who are rural and not sophisticated.

There are no issues with the Dominion machines, yet through a series of authoritarians and their agents telling people who may not understand the modern world that this is how folks can cheat (with no instances of such) this is why their narrow world views and hateful policies are being rejected.

Trump and MAGA lost because folks saw a older, milquetoast, rather benign and feckless leader as the better alternative to the racist, frothing at the mouth, screaming on social media orange dude. Has **** all to do with the machines.

Wonder what Shasta County will do to count votes going forward? Or will they bother with all that pesky, expensive election nonsense, and just submit that the MAGA candidate got every vote in the county??

    They probably come close anyway.....

Pillowman should just start a company that produces vote counting machines. He could make a killing off of red counties.

Actually it’s both. Redding is a city in Shasta county with 95k of the 180k population. The Redding MSA is the whole county, a county bigger Delaware and Rhode Island combined with 1/8th their combined population.
Enough liberals moved here to give Newsom 27% of the vote for governor in both the county and the city.

Probably not. Having Dominion here was the issue and now they are gone.

It is not both. One is a city, one is a county. Totally different entities.

Within Redding, Newsom, while not winning, received more than 27% in many of the precincts.

So of the Republican won in Shasta Country, wouldn't that demonstrate that the voting machines worked?

When it benefits their side. Thats been the trend lately, but it wasn't so long ago (Bush era) they were screaming 'electronic voting fraud!' too. They will again, the instant control over the establishment flips back to the neocons.

Getting rid of Dominion was the clear issue and goal here and now it’s done. We will now be one of 19 counties out of the 58 in the state that does not use Dominion.

I don't know enough about Dominion's machines to assess them, but I am happy with our local system that uses optical scanners to read the fill-in-the-bubble ballots. It is a much faster system than the touch screens that used to be used because a lot more people can be voting at once. Since most of our stations are in schools, there are plenty of chairs and tables to accommodate dozens upon dozens voting at once instead of 6 at a time.

It's going to be hysterical when this county spends upwards of $1 Million, and their 2024 results are essentially identical to every other year... That's fiscal GENIUS, that is...

    SNIP
California state law has only three voting systems it allows counties to use: Dominion, Hart and Election Systems & Software (ES&S). Allen told SFGATE she has begun the process of reaching out to the other two vendors, and that it's too early to know how much the board's move will cost the county. Acting county CEO Patrick Minturn told the board Tuesday it would be upward of $1 million.

Don't worry, the green Jewish space lasers out of the Vatican can alter paper ballots too.
