Just waiting for the Trumpsters to chime in calling him a RINO. Seems to me that pretty much every elected Republican for the last - well, forever - is a RINO by Trumpist standards.

    Trump is the real RINO.

Powell was always one of the few Republicans I would have considered voting for, when I voted for Republicans

    The "RINO" thing is hilarious.

You essentially want to chase from your party anyone who isn't in lock step with you.

This is in line with the fervor in the GOP against negotiation and compromise. The GOP theory is that there is one right answer (the GOP answer) on any US issue, and accommodating a wider constituency is an offense so serious that it warrants an assault in the next primary.

Anyone who isn't Trump is a RINO apparently. In fact it is Trump who isn't a Republican. It's not that the Party is disloyal to him, it's that he's disloyal to Republican principles.

If the RINOS are "in the wrong party", the GOP has worse problems than those that are apparent.

Personally, I think that the GOP needs to lose this election and purge itself of the suicidal cancer of Trumpism.

Then, just maybe, Ryan, Kasich, Rubio, Romney, Bush, etc. can try to put the pieces back together for a run against Hillary in 2020.

I don't think Ryan and Rubio are neoconservatives and fall into the category of being a RINO.

The only political crime against America committed by Rubio was that he was a member of the Gang of Eight. That's why he didn't get the conservative base support during the GOP primaries.

But Trump was probably the best thing to happen to the GOP since Reagan in 1980.

The Democrat liberal base left the Democrat party during the 1970's and were welcomed by the GOP and they were called neoconservatives or neocons. The neocons had a purpose in the GOP during the Cold War years. But Reagan won the Cold War and there has been no real purpose having nation building neocons with in the GOP and after the crap they have pulled off this year they really should go back from where they came from, the Democrat party.

There's no room for RINO's in the 21st Century GOP.

I don't have a party. It's been hijacked by a bunch of sissy losers who go along with whatever the Democrats want.

Compromise? You mean like when the Donkey party had control of congress and senate during the 2009 and 2010 session and excluded Republicans from every meeting when writing ObamaCare which the Donkey party rammed down the American's throats? Are you talking about that kind of compromise?

And every time the GOP compromises with the Donkey party, the Donkey party wins and the American people lose. The GOP doesn't know how to compromise, they just know how to give the Donkey party everything they asked for.

    - - - Updated - - -

I don't like Republicans who are not conservative.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that?????

    OK.

So who do you see as the candidate in 2020?

Certainly not a Trumpist. But who?

You have a very thin bench if you are eliminating the GOP "establishment".

The committee that created Obamacare had a full compliment of Republicans.

They debated and modified this bill over a shockingly large number of months.

When it became an actual bill, Republicans put forward more than 160 amendments that were accepted and became part of Obamacare.

What we're seeing today is not even SLIGHTLY like that.

McConnell and Boehner stated that their number one priority was the failure of the US president.

    THAT IS UNPRECEDENTED.

The GOP is guilty of a direct assault on our form of government.

And, THAT is what they have stood for ever since.

Oh, and I agree that we need sound conservative representation in our congress - regardless of party, for that matter.
