House Democratic leaders are drafting a letter to President Donald Trump that would propose roughly $5 billion in border security, just as long as the president agrees to open up the government.

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ts-make-new-offer-president-trump/2656117002/

Here we go! Finally the Democrats come to their senses and do their jobs!

And please notice I did not say Trump won because this does not get him exactly what he wanted. It at least demonstrates that the left does know that negotiations must happen!

$5 billion but they don't want him to even fix the broken fences they voted for in 2006? Geez....what is wrong with the Dems??

Nobody said they were smart! It at least demonstrates their acceptance that the longer they keep the government closed the greater the cost to the American people and against our tax dollars!

So when border agents are telling DC they actually need more walls to help better protect us, Trump is the one lying? Amazing how they want something 1 year, then Trump becomes president and suddenly what they wanted isn't good anymore. Hypocrite PHONIES!!!

There is a scheduled vote on Thurs on the Senate version. A letter to the president does not change McConnell's plan.

The Democrats with Republicans could have gotten the House version passed and over ridden any veto from Trump.

It's McConnell who can not let America see that Trump has no power.

Were I in Trump's shoes I would remember Tip O'Neil and stick with when the legislation is acceptable I'll sign it.

But what will that do to the Democratic party platform that "MS-13 aren't so bad and illegal aliens and open borders are more important than federal workers and Americans on food stamps."

    edit:

Now I see after reading the article...still no money for building the wall and securing the open border.

He better make sure it has all the signatures needed and notarized by the Secretary of State. He better make double down sure, before he ends the shutdown. As any true negotiator knows, you ask for more than what you want, then they will give you what you need. Great news, I just hope we can trust they follow through.

(Quotes are from the OP's link https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...ts-make-new-offer-president-trump/2656117002/ )

I am all for compromise ---- this does not sound like any compromise.

That sounds like a pretty vague use of $5 billion.....

He would "assume"? Who knows if this will even come to fruition. When are they planning to start? Tick, tock. It sounds like it would be a waste of time anyhow.

I thought Trump's compromise plan was pretty reasonable, but what do I know, I'm not a rabidly partisan Democrat out to #resist Trump at all costs.

You are right, on reading the entire article, it's a nothing burger. This is nothing new and breaking from the democrats. No new structures and some more judges? President Trump will never accept it and he sure won't accept anything tomorrow that turtle face has to offer.

So they are still ignoring the Border Patrol and Homeland Securities requests for replacement walls and some new walls. That's some compromise there alright. LOL

The Democrats can **** right off. There is no allowance for new structures which are desperately needed.

Trump ought to start firing excessive bureaucrats that simply are not needed as allowed by law after 28 days of being temporarily laid off. Then move the shut down to another department. I would suggest the IRS after April 15 and start cleaning house... then the EPA... etc...

It is a smart play because it satisfies both demands by their base (do not fund the wall) and the independents/republicans (adjust their offer and present a willingness to negotiate).
