    50 years ago we had a lot fewer gun laws and also a lot fewer mass shootings. What we did have, was a fairly robust state by state mental health system. It was fairly easy for people to voluntarily commit themselves. We only have a shadow of that system today.

    My recollection is that I said no civilian will be killed with a gun of there are no guns.

    Yeh, riight, "Let's study the matter, we'll do 'research' and let you know our 'findings', 6 months from uh.... hmmm....is never good for you? Meanwhile, some guy breaks the 1000 toddlers record. Funerals for children are the newest growth industry in Trumperica and Remington brings out the Mall Master with special sights for screaming people.

    Alright, try this. Howsabout we INTENSIVELY study the few of these mass shooters we have, and we make real and concerted efforts to take the next few we find alive so we can study them. Then we ask a few of them WHY they did such a horrible thing and let the answers bo known.

    No, we didn't have a LOT fewer gun laws. We may, in fact, have fewer gun laws today

    You may be right with the Mental Health, which was gutted by Ray Gun to save money, and I think it's high time we look into making involuntary commitments easier. We need to understand that a guy who sits among his collection of machine guns muttering about strawberry ice cream while clicking ball bearings together is NOT Elwood P. Dowd.

    I don't think semi-autos are the majority. I think you will find that bolt actions outnumber them in rifles and revolvers in pistols. There is a significant price difference and many shooters I know say they do nothing but waste expensive ammunition.

    Well okay, but what is the significance of that if knives can kill too? Other than guns are a more convenient and effective method.

    Guns are a LOT easier to hurt people with. People often resist being stabbed but resisting being shot is only commonplace in cinema.

    Both things can happen Chris. We can ban guns and keep knives you know. Even keep cars which also kill people. Even factories. Even aeroplanes etc etc etc.
