This story touches even my dark heart and even though I am not a fan of the NYPD, I am a fan of this guy and will gladly say that what he did was just awesome and brought a tear to my eye. Good job, dude:
I pretty much despise the NYPD in general, but this guy is awesome. Total hero, a guy to look up to, for sure. If only we had a force made up of guys like him.
I wonder if there was a rich guy wandering about nearby with no shoes looking for his wallet. If so, the cop was definitely a Democrat with some extra spending money for Christmas - errr.. I mean, Xmas.
I read this awhile ago and that cop deserves a medal for his sheer kindness. What a beautiful story.........
Hopefully more people follow this guy's lead, and do acts of kindness for our fellow man that are less fortunate.
I was totally shocked as hell, knowing in my line of work a great many of the NYPD, but then I saw that he was only 25 so I'm thinking maybe he was on the police force for two weeks or something. Yes, I'm just evil.
I read this yesterday and was very touched by it. I am no fan of police in general but this guy is a great human being. Hopefully the guy doesnt trade the boots for drugs or alcohol and go back to shoeless though.
Great story indeed. gets pretty cold around these parts this time of year, no time for anyone to be barefoot in the street. Thumbs up to that cop.
I am not surprised that a police officer would show an act of kindness. I was a member of the police oversight committee in my town. We did police ride-arounds on a regular basis. The police show acts of kindness on every single shift. Sometimes it is as simple as giving a drunk a ride home so he doesn't get killed wandering in traffic as opposed to locking them up. This is done off the books and is usually against police policy. Most police join the force so they can do good things. There are a few hard-asses who join as a power trip, they should be identified and tossed off the force as quickly as possible. Now, the fact that he is from New York City, that is surprising.
I enjoy random acts of kindness, others stories about it and when I do it myself. Its nice when these types of things encourage others to do the same. It is what this time of year should be especially about, although the other 11 months of year have people just as in need as well. I agree with Lee, labeling all police officers as a bunch of (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s is disingenuous. They are comprised of individuals just like any other profession and personally I have had the honor of being in the lives of quite a few good one to be able to attest they exist.
There is nothing surprising here, unless you're predisposed to paranoia and hate toward your fellow man. We have good people in every walk of life, doing similar things consistently. We have angry, selfish, fearful people in every walk of life, doing bad things consistently. Prattling on about how surprising it is that a NYC cop cared for his fellow man reveals the paucity of understanding about life of the prattler. The world keeps moving forward because the actions of good people are enough to overcome the drag of the rest.
