So are many highly talented and experienced journalists, who say exactly the same thing every night on the BBC news, so if they are confused, is it any wonder that the rest of us are too? I keep thinking I'm going to wake up from a weird kind of nightmare.
Well at this point all I can say it sounds like they're never going to leave the EU I have heard viewpoints that the open borders are very useful for the economy Maybe we should close ours and just see what happens You can put America first but it's still on the same spherical surface area of the globe as everybody else
Here's all you need to know in two easy to remember points: 1. Brexit was approved by old white bigots who didn't like brown people getting into Britain. 2. The resulting chaos is proof, in any were needed, that people running countries don't always know what they're doing.
I am an unabashed Anglophile. I spent 2 years there while in the Air Force...and just fell in love with the place and its people. I respected them and often found myself wishing we Americans could adopt some of their way of being reasonable. I NEVER thought I would see the UK in the kind of mess it is now. They should all be as ashamed of themselves for allowing the pitiful leadership they have...for coming into existence. They have dropped down to our level...as we should be ashamed of what we are doing to ours. I now think the delay is simply kicking the can down the street. They are not going to come up with a decent solution...unless it is: DO NOT LEAVE THE EU.
The only Brexit is a no deal Brexit. Everything else is varying degrees of remain and vassalage. As I have said consistently, it will never happen. Either they will have continual referenda until the EU's preference is chosen, or they will push a vassal state treaty with the complicity of British MPs. The only hope is that the farce of all this will convince people to rise up in revolt.
No deal Brexit was not a choice in the referendum. In fact leading Brexit campaigners told us that the EU would be falling over themselves to offer us a favourable deal. Let's put no-deal Brexit up against remain in the next referendum and see how the public really feel about it.
Still waiting for the reason for the referendum to sort itself out - the Tory Right getting into a position of power. Looks like they have blown it by trying to bring in a situation which was going to harm everyone except their bank accounts.
When people fail to recognize the significance of human history and evolution, such as the creation of countries and nations, failure will be a constant companion. The EU is an artificial thing, and in violation of human history. As a result, it was, and is doomed to failure. No Nation has every survived in the history of mankind, when it willfully gives away it's sovereignty.
C'mon, Ocean. Every nation...every state...is an artificial thing. France is an artificial thing...as is Germany. William and Mary as a combo...is an artificial thing. All hook-ups are. The EU is no more "artificial" than the US...or, for that matter, Delaware.
Thank you for showing your racism. Sadly, you are showing millions that it is ok to judge someone on the color of their skin and it is causing more and more violence everywhere.
I don't agree that every Nation is artificial. It's organic and created and defended by the people who live there. That doesn't mean it will last. The recorded evolution of man shows that to be true. If a Nation is weak, it gets absorbed or is conquered by a stronger Nation or Empire. But they have all had borders of some kind that are defended. Citizenship required some sort of pledge. There is no recorded history that I have found that documents a country that has had open borders where people in large numbers could come and go as they pleased. In fact, it's the breakdown in National identity that has resulted in the loss of countries. What's the point of a Nation of laws and cultural unity, when technically, it's individual identity doesn't exist?
There is NO recorded history of a nation with the kind of diversity found in the United States., None...never...anywhere else. But here it is. The EU could have made a significant difference for Europe. Whether it will or not is a separate question. I personally think the UK leaving the union is a monumental mistake...but if it is what THEY want (or a majority of them)...they should go. Better, though...MUCH, MUCH, MUCH better that they go with a codified understanding of what their exit entails for them and their relationship with the other nations...and the Union. They have got to get their ducks in a row...or change the decision to leave.
UK isn't like the rest of the EU it seems. UK is pretty diverse, the rest of the EU isn't. In 2002 I already accepted Chinese Jamaicans as norm, come 2019, I see some guy in America wowing about Chinese Jamaican food in some restaurant on YouTube. I'd say where I'm from is pretty diverse.
I've said nothing about diversity. There have been nations in recorded history with citizens who covered all the ethnic variables of the time. The unifying force was an agreement among the citizens to the Nations cultural identity. Elimination of that connection has resulted in those Nations disappearing. That is a recorded fact. When borders are erased, and people can come and go as they please, what's the purpose of National Identity? What's the purpose of a Nations laws and traditions? I think the EU is a massive mistake, and the results speak for themselves. This is one of the reasons I am so opposed to the open borders, unlimited immigration being promoted by the New Democratic Party in the US. For people to thrive and the Nation to benefit, people who come to the US need to understand and agree to the culture and principles it operates from.
I agree...we are all getting more diverse. And I, personally, consider that to be a good thing. Some people despise it. But my point about American diversity had mostly to do with Ocean's comment..."There is no recorded history that I have found that documents a country that has had open borders where people in large numbers could come and go as they pleased." Ocean probably is correct. BUT...the times they are a'chaning. Things can happen now that never happened before.
I guess I'm guilty of assuming where I'm from speaks for the entirety of the UK, but remember this. We're a people, a mixed lot, it shouldn't matter if you're black, white, brown, red or yellow.
I'm from New Jersey...in the US. I spent two years in Lincolnshire back when I was in the military...and fell in love with your country.
Whenever I've been to New Jersey, I stayed in Ocean County (Seaside Heights) on the Jersey Shore seeing family. I also celebrated Thanksgiving once in Tom's River. We took a wrong turn in Jersey City driving to NYC once, passed Newark Airport and that Ikea there. I've both walked and driven and even taken a Taxi boat to New Jersey. My NJ family are US Air Force & proud, I've been shown Fort Dix.
