Michael Luttig was a Federal Appeals Court judge from 1991 - 2006. He was appointed by George W. Bush. He was a legal advisor to Mike Pence during the 2020 election. This guy is no liberal.

This is his opinion piece published in the New York Times (not a liberal paper)

    As he points out:

“As only the Republicans can do, they are already turning this ignominious moment (tRaitor tRump’s indictment ) into an even more ignominious moment — and a self-immolating (suicidal) one at that — by rushing to crown Mr. Trump their nominee before the primary season even begins.”

How can a party, nicknamed The Grand Old Party, stoop so low?

    His most poignant point:

“No assemblage of politicians except the Republicans would ever conceive of running for the American presidency by running against the Constitution and the rule of law.”

How desperate Republicans are for leadership when they are left with the M&M’s, McConnell and McCarthy. (actually M&M’s have more spine) Not to mention reeking members like Margery Karen Green and LowOnbrains Boebert. All of whom have made “their choice”, tRaitor tRump, OVER our Country and its Constitution. -sad

Judge Luttig delivered some compelling testimony during the Jan 6 hearings. He has a lot of courage going against his own party. This is what patriotism looks like.

    Truth to power.

And what makes him a RINO? What policy does he advocate that runs counter to Republican policy?

What is there to trust here? It's an OPINION piece. Either you agree with it or you don't.

Trump runs against anything that is not "pro Trump". He has no convictions, no policy stances that he is not willing to change at the drop of a hat if he thinks he can get something out of it.

Its not that impressive. I've seen lefties in here write way more compelling anti-trump speeches. This guy is just capitalizing on a TREND. The Ant-trump band wagon is a very lucrative one. I may even open up an anti-trump T-shirt business.

Participants in party politics still value the published opinions of the political establishment and its MSM, but only when it supports their agenda.
And even committed partisans tend to no longer consider the MSM to be a credible source for information.

His brief that history shows that the government had stricter carry laws in the 1700s than we do today makes him anti 2A?

What about a person who thinks we can take away guns from someone without due process of law? Do you think that person is Anti-2A and therefore a RINO?

Ah yes. One must not speak the truth or risk being marginalized with claims of disloyalty to Dear Leader.

The former president’s behavior may have invited charges, but the Republicans’ spineless support for the past two years convinced Mr. Trump of his political immortality, giving him the assurance that he could purloin some of the nation’s most sensitive national security secrets upon leaving the White House — and preposterously insist that they were his to do with as he wished — all without facing political consequences.

So your entire test to determine if you are a RINO or not is your position on whether weapons of mass killing should be regulated more than they are now?

Would you vote for a Democrat that opposes abortion?

Luttig is a principled conservative and I may disagree with many of his positions I respect his consistency. The Republican Party needs more of his ilk. RINO is a term utilized by zealots.

The last thing the Republicans need is more anti-gunners and faux Conservatives.

It would depend. What position is he running for? What's his position on other topics? "Opposes abortion" how? Complete ban? Bans in the third trimester? Bans in the second trimester? Who is his/her opponent?

I don't reduce politicians to one issue. Sure their anti abortion stance would be a strike against them but as the saying goes it's THREE strikes and your out.

Once again, you have decided that ONE issue makes or breaks someone's claims to be a conservative.

Oh all the people call W Bush RINO , they all lined up and voted for him twice.

The evangelical conservative had cut out cardboard of W Bush , praying for him in 2004 election.

He's not running for office or hoping for another judicial appointment. So, how's he "capitalizing" on Trump being an ignorant clown?
