Unfortunately we have enabled them to avoid learning it by putting everything in Spanish, and even making our kids take Spanish in school.

Well, they've been peddling the myth that all these hispanics are going to vote Democrat to their base for years now, despite the fact that hispanics have the highest dropout rates and lowest voter turnouts. They're desperate to increase hispanic turnout; of course they'll fail.

    - - - Updated - - -

And many hispanic parents, particularly illegals with children, are not at all happy about that. You just won't see any press coverage of that fact. As many have said:" I don't need my kid's school to teach them Spanish. I can teach them Spanish at home. I need their school to teach them English, so they can get good jobs."

My wife's family is hispanic. Their parents made them take French and German in school and university. They've been here since Texas was part of Spain. They don't like criminal illegal aliens, and refuse to do business with people who don't speak English while claiming to be 'Americans'.

Who cares? It's not as if not knowing English benefits those who don't know English. And their kids will learn the native tongue.

    Non-issue.

All the people who were here when New Mexico was Mexico are dead.

Speak the language, or get out.

If you can't post in English, please leave. Take the rest of your illegals with you. We really do not want our Country to look or sound like yours. If we did, we would end up becoming the same ()()()()hole from which you came. Thank you, and Adios!

There is no national language. If English is that important to you move to England.

You'd prefer we be more like England I take it? Socialized medicine and a royal family?

I'd be willing to give a few states to them in exchange for the ability to make sure they cannot continue coming into the US. Of course, we all know what would happen. They'll trash their new homes, just like they did in Mexico, and then sneak across the border again - first demanding asylum, then demanding reparations and concessions.

This seems pretty easy to me. If the whole Espanol thing upsets the master race so much - Don't vote for any candidate who speaks Spanish! Or any other foreign (YUCK!) language.

Really? I thought it was just one big coincidence that everyone on this forum happened to speak English. Interesting.

There is a difference between learning and speaking other languages and refusing to learn and speak English. People should be encouraged to learn other languages. Refusing to learn the language of the host country? Not so much.

Mexican speaking citizens still vote. This is a smart move and just another reason why racist republicants are becoming ever more irrelevant to the national citizenry.

    Bien. No me importa.

Actually I have to write an essay on whether or not Spanish is the second language in the US, so this is great material.

I had a friend who's younger sister was put into bilingual education in Kindergarten based on her last name. The kid grew up with English but the teachers in the misnamed bilingual education program would only speak Spanish to her. Eventually they got her out and put in regular classes, but it took a while. I think things are better now, but at the time, California didn't want to mainstream Spanish surnamed kids.

I'm curious. Do you really oppose assimilation and the primary use of English? I mean, if each group that came here refused to learn English and spoke their native language, don't you think that would tear this country a part? English is the only thing keeping us together as it is.

It's an insult to everything this nation was built on to come over illegally and refuse to assimilate.

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say. Historically, empirically and through over two hundred years of common usage, English has been the language and the lingua franca of the United States of America.
You might note what language all of our legal and founding documents are written in if there is any doubt.

There's no need and if Spanish is so important to you move to Mexico.

I prefer to let the free market decide...as it always has. When we took half of Mexico we had no English requirement for citizenship, Puerto Ricans gain citizenship without knowing it...if its needed for their lifestyle people will learn it.

    - - - Updated - - -

I'd think that would have been a concern when took over half of Mexico and Puerto Rico. Did it tear our nation apart then?

I agree and it's one thing to say people will learn English (the common language of the U.S.) if they feel it's in their best interests, as most do.

But it's quite another to encourage mass Balkanization by holding political debates in Spanish. This is not an individual decision one can make for himself...it's just another way in which California encourages people to remove themselves from the main stream of American life in favor of ethnic
enclaves and ghettos where people are defined by a degree of disdain for their fellow Americans.
