California's $68 billion budget deficit is both a state and national record.

The best part about this is how short that tax revenue came up. Taxpayers and businesses have been fleeing the state for years, and Newsom, along with Jerry Brown, have pretended like it wasn't happening. Now the state is falling apart, and the cost of borrowing is a lot higher. They're going to convince themselves another tax hike on businesses and working people is the answer.

I don't think any other state has produced two deficits combined that are this big.

Meanwhile, the guy who destroyed Gavin in a televised debate, is running a state with a $20 billion surplus.

They have given it away to all their "non profit" cronies and they will soon be raising taxes again. California's non productive spending has gotten ridiculous. No one knows how much is being stolen every year.
And unless there is another "rainy day" fund, he spent it. AFAIK he threw it in the government furnace last year.

Certainly can't be true the way they were handing out money like candy during COVID bragging about how rich their blue state was.

The is no deficit so large that higher taxes and fees can't fix it. You can bet the ranch that Newsom will be asking Californians to 'pay their fair share' and dig deep, very deep.

Also, on this board the left likes to brag about how large California's GDP is, so why the deficit when just about every aspect of that GDP is taxed to the hilt?

Certainly a large shortfall, highest in dollar terms but not as a percentage of overall spending

California also has a $30 Billion dollar “rainy day fund” and looks to already be working on plans to lower future shortfalls.

I think states should start supporting themselves and the Federal Government should stop subsidizing failure states. Then we can see who the actual winners and losers are.

Republicans have been predicting the decline of CA for 20 years. We’ll be fine.

There's a ho lotta POCs in the states you would not prefer to support and you know what that means - it means if New Mexico doesn't get federal money the cries of racism will be deafening. Also, NYC is asking Biden for help getting the $12 billion he needs to take care of the illegals Biden gave him. Is NYC a failed city?

I think it’s funny that the right act like Biden is to the left of Che, but the far left actually hate him and think he’s a corporate shill.

Not really. Granted we don't have thirty nine million people to fleece like Grusom does either.. Takes real mathematician to go in the hole with a population like that.

Like my Mother says, "nobody works here" ;)

I'd say Oakland, San Fran, parts of LA are pretty miserable. The parts that might not be miserable are too expensive for the average person to live in. Even San Diego is starting to decline.

California has a lot of nice things going for it, I lived there for 21 years. At first I thought it was great, probably because I'm originally from NJ and it seemed the same except the food sucked (but not the Mexican food which is great), but then stuff started to change for the worse. My wife was born and raised in So Cal, first Long Beach, then Menifee, and then with me in Corona. After leaving that state for the democrat enclave of El Paso and now New Mexico, she said she would never go back to California, and she didn't live in any bad areas when she was there (except for when she met me when I was living in Moreno Valley. That city started off real nice and was featured on 60 minutes, but it took a steep downturn in the late 90s) Her father and two sisters still live there (Temecula, Corona and San Bernardino) and send her depressing reports.

So cal is mostly trash. I’d prefer we split the state into at least 2.

I'm more worried about how they hosted a guy that is in the act of committing in genocide as we speak and who is responsible for killing 16 million Americans with his lab grown virus.

Of course after he sent by aircraft over our country.

Gavin newsome should be arrested for treason for hosting the dictator of China.

Yet you support a guy who shook hands with a dictator who starves and imprisons his own people.

    Treason?
