Could you please post a reference or two so that the rest of us can understand what your approach is to this subject? Your OP, as written, doesn't have much in the way of any specifics to go on....

I think we have enough evidence to conclude that consciousness is based on the brain, even just looking at the split brain experiments alone. We still don't know how it works, but it seems undeniable that it does work.

Better look up the definition of soul. It is not the mind. It is a belief that there is an afterlife and the soul is the form in which it would exist. It is a religious concept, not a scientific one.

I believe in a soul. The soul is not proveable of course.

What is proveable is that we still can't stick all the base ingredients of a human together in a lab and create an actual human. Thus we are missing at least one necessary ingredient. ...or humans are not simply a sum of our parts.

But then again, we can't do that with animals either, so, ya...

We do not have the technology to create life where none exists. No doubt about that. Not sure what that has to do with the unproven soul.

Well I guess that would take faith. The first question should be "Is there anything greater than what is between your two ears". 2nd question what is my purpose for being here? 3rd might be "why do I contemplate good and evil and death. Those are starters. Define love.

A "soul" can be considered the total sum of our thoughts and feelings. These can be measured by electrical activity. Once we pass, there is no more electrical activity, so the "soul" will no longer exist. The thought of ceasing to exist can produce feelings of fear, so many find comfort in believing in eternal life.

There are many studies on the brain.

So what you seem to entail is "eat drink and be merry for tomorrow we die". I believe we are here momentarily for a greater purpose. IMHO

But... near death experience accounts can now be induced under laboratory conditions.......
surely this is evidence that a part of us survives our physical death?!
