When it came to weight reduction, dyslipidemia, diabetes, I definitely did betterr
on my own than referring out.
I had some patients off blood pressure and diabetes pills in 1 - 2 months.
The Asians came to America and ate like, Oh boy, now I get a bigger bowl of rice.
I taught go back to as much rice as you got in the old country and if you were still
hungry it had to be non starchy veges, meat, chicken, fish, etc. No bread, cookies, cake or candy.
And the Asians listened.

Sure, you do the long face and tell Joe he can change his diet, lose some weight, and not become a diabetic. My wife taught nutrition to high school students for years. She showed them how to cook foods that are part of a healthy lifestyle.

The clinic my wife and I use teaches diabetics, and more importantly people headed in that direction, how to avoid diabetes. They bring in people like my wife to show people how to eat better. My doc said their little team (six GPs) is on a mission. Good on them.

My wife and I are in our 70s and feel great. We travel and do what we can to keep it going for as long as possible. You know the drill. I have some now departed friends who ate, drank, and smoked themselves into early graves, and a few others who have compromised their quality of life.

A buddy is 80 and still plays a good game of golf, skiis (I not sure about that one), etc.

That has to be a rewarding feeling. I taught school for years to get that little rush that goes with making a difference.

P.S. I do the grocery shopping and I'm blown away at all the processed food people eat and how many are these days becoming obese.

cutting sugars out of my diet, virtually all processed foods and reducing calorie intake took 55lbs off me in 6 months (233-178lbs)and lowered my blood pressure to normal...downside, I had to buy a lot of new clothes...
