Carbon net zero It's not to reduce carbon emissions to zero. It's there to reduce your carbon emissions so that polluting industries can pollute Without consequences. If we wanted to control carbon emissions, we would have to get industries to use carbon capture on their equipment to reduce the pollution emitted from their Use. It wouldn't be popular among the people who want the government to reduce regulations, and a fair number of lobbyists from the industrial sector would like to stop politicians from implementing it. Still, to reduce carbon emissions to a low number, we must get industry on board with pollution control.

Yes. Well said! Net zero doesn't mean a country will stop carbon emissions. Only that we have taken steps so the output of carbon minus the preventive measures to absorb carbon net to a total of zero. Clearly some industries MUST produce carbon. It's unavoidable. Those that produce the most need to support efforts in other areas so that the greenhouse gases they emit are handled some way. Equipment to reduce pollution is indispensable. Or they can contribute to efforts in activities like reforestation.

You want industries to change when regular, average, everyday people won't even do small things like buy a water filter instead of going through a 6 pack of plastic water bottles a day?
Maybe we should change our ways and create less demand which means less supply which means less pollution.
Many little things could add up. I agree with most of @Golem 's ideas but I really think "the little people" should be encouraged to do more and it appears nobody is gonna do that without something I hate. The R word!

Actually carbon net zero is an attempt to change the subject by people who know nothing about chemistry. It is a fraud whose primary goal is to empower government and bureaucracy. You can't have zero carbon and make those giant carbon fiber blades for those giant windmills.

Those things help. But if they are not done as part of a planed policy, they might become counterproductive.

We don't want to impose restrictions on people. But we DO want to impose them on industries. Maybe not even restrictions, but incentives. Recycling is a good thing. People, on the other hand, simply need to be educated about why recycling . And make it easy for them. First thing is to explain that recycling is good for the LOCAL environment first. Even more than for the global environment. Most people will understand and cooperate.

The expense would only move manufacturing to China, where they contaminate the planet far more than if they just left things alone.

    The real question is, "Why?"
