CDC chief to Gretchen Whitmer: Lock down now

...Gretchen Whitmer told the residents of her state last week that she had requested a surge of vaccines from the White House to beat back the exploding COVID epidemic in Michigan, had been denied, and would keep pushing.

Today Rochelle Walensky used the daily White House briefing to answer her. Vaccines take too long to work, the CDC chief reminded everyone. It’d be two to six weeks before a dose fully protected recipients; Michigan needs to start dousing the flames of its outbreak today. And the governor conspicuously and uncharacteristically refuses to take the sort of action this time that she became famous for taking earlier in the pandemic.

I’m not mentally prepared for Gretchen Whitmer to become an ally of the right for her staunch opposition to lockdowns but that’s where we’re headed. Watch Walensky, then read on.

Last week Whitmer told Michiganders that she was asking them, not ordering them, to keep their distance for the next two weeks and to cancel activities like high-school sports, as infections have been exploding among younger people. The Michigan High School Athletic Association responded to her quickly: Uh, nope....

This is interesting. The former lockdown queen, a worse enemy of re opening and religious liberty than even Cuomo and Newsom is now being denied more vaccine to counter a local spike and told by the federal regime to lock down her state again. That is just ridiculous. She should resist the feds on this. I hope she learned her lesson.

 

If lives weren’t at stake this could be funny. The arch lock down queen witch is being denied extra vaccines for an outbreak, and the Biden regime is telling this most locked down state of all to lock down again. I don’t understand why if a state or region is spiking why we can’t surge more vaccine to the hot spot. It’s all about control.

 

If this happens, Whitmer will become unpopular enough that she may very well be removed from office.

 

Contrast this to President Trump when Cuomo asked for the ventilators and the medical ship, it instantly arrived. Sorry, just had to be that guy

Like other viruses, they should have let covid run its course so herd immunity was reached early on. But it was used as a political football from the beginning and is still being manipulated to suit draconian oppressors.

It should be flexible to deal with surges. It would have been if Trump were our President now.

 

More vaccine won't help with local current surges. Why? Because there is a lag time to build immunity from the vaccine. For Pfizer, immunity buildup is about 4% additional protection per day, so you need a couple of weeks to get a decent effect. Therefore, social distancing and mask wearing is what it is needed to suppress these local surges, not more vaccine.

Of course, I do not expect Trumpers to understand this, when all they want is to score silly political points by attacking the Michigan governor.

We need to stop allowing doctors to determine public policy in the same way that we don't let public policy experts practice medicine. The epidemiology is only part of the problem here.

I don't think you thought your response out very well. Many deadly viruses have been combated with vaccines. There
is a common flu vaccine given out every year. Polio, German Measles, Rubella, Diphtheria, HepA, HepB, HPV ... all
are problems dealt with through vaccines. So your claim that other viruses are left to run rampant is bullcrap.
