I would never buy an electric car, but for those of you who are on the fence, the below innovation might interest you.
Time will tell. Or it may not. China has a tendency to over promise and under deliver. Something is off here. A one megawatt charger is going to need 1 megawatt coming in. 5ea - 1 megawatt chargers need 5 megawatts from somewhere. From Google: "A 5 MW power plant can potentially power around 5,000 to 10,000 homes, depending on average electricity consumption per household." You would need dedicated grid.
I bought a 2016 Volt in February of 2016. It has an electric motor and a gas engine. It has been a great car but I am not able to drive it right now. I bought another car with only a gas motor. Even though I live in the city and I rarely travel more than 30 km a day paying for the gas has been such a drag. The electricity usage in my home doesn’t seem to have gone down by much. China’s cars are really good because they have sodium ion batteries. These things last long, charge fast and will have a long lifespan. If I could buy a $20,000 car that I don’t even have to buy gas for, I would. Unfortunately these Chinese cars monitor your behaviour. So that’s creepy. I’m only used to Apple and Amazon and google monitoring my every move.
