Someone on another thread said there was 'no daylight' between China & Russia. You could drive a tank battalion through the daylight here: https://www.newsweek.com/china-praises-ukraine-resistance-pledges-economic-support-1688608 Chna knows Russia is losing. China knows Russia is an international pariah. China knows Russia can only be a destructive force in the world. China will use Russia for its own ends. This is not al alliance, it is a relationship that exists as long as China sees a benefit. China is not coming to save Russia. China might offer a bit of help here & there, but that is all.
China is swaying with the world's political/social perspective, 'chameleon complexion'. What you can bank on is them doing what's ultimately best for them. The only fault one can find with this 'model', is it best for their rulers or their average citizen.
I think China will publicly say anything to keep the world from lashing out at them as they still support Russia. Actions, not words. Always be mindful of what China is actually doing.
It seems China is beginning to understand that any association with Russia is becoming the "kiss of Judas", which dooms anyone who touches them. Now Russia might be building a case against Finland. They sent this to every Russian in Finland, apparently in order to gather evidence that Russians are supposedly being mistreated there
This is consistent with China's foreign policy on regional conflicts for the past three decades. So, I am not suprised. Furthermore, China desperately wants their major banks to still be part of SWIFT because of the international trade that their country exports to the West.
It is not spoken in any region in Finland. They are referring to individual Russians who have immigrated to Finland, or live there temporarily. It would be prudent from Finland to not let more of them in if they are going to be used against the country.
There's been some significant traffic going into Finland from the RF....Younger generation Russkis looking to flee....since sanctions are taking hold.
Apparently Sergei Lavrov was hours into a flight to China, almost across the Russian border, and turned around. Hmmm. Guess Xi didn't want that blow job after all. Meanwhile Biden is scheduled to call Xi. This isn't sounding like China bailing out Russia.
It is interesting that China says they want to “ensure world peace” together with the U.S. Sounds like China wants to divide the world between itself and the U.S. You can tell China views Russia as its vassal at this point.
Anyone who says that there is 'no daylight' between China & Russia has no clue about Sino-Russo history. China and Russia are allies like the British and French are...
I'm not sure China will be working with the US, but yes, Russia's fate will very much be in China's hands. Maybe our resident Russian posters should start practicing mandarin.
It is even worse than that. Britain & France really are allies and have been for over a century. Their soldiers have fought alongside each other (literally) in multiple wars over the past 200 years and they are part of a genuine alliance that compels them to aid the other if attacked. For all the quibbling between them, if one was attacked the other would help. How much of any of that do Russia & China have? They were allies for a time during the Cold War, but then became enemies to the point of military conflict. While all alliances have an element of temporary opportunism, Russia & China is all convenience & no committment. China will use Russia and Russia will choose to let it.
China is very disappointed that its upcoming invasion of Taiwan will be burdened with comparisons to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
No they're not, they've already claimed that the situations are different - that Taiwan is part of China territorially while Ukraine is not a part of Russia. We won't even recognize Taiwan to this day as an independent country. They know what their cards are and how to play them. We won't do **** if China takes Taiwan. We certainly can't sanction them like we have Russia, not without massive economic damage that most of our elites will not be okay with anyway. A new bipolar world order is emerging. China knows it needs allies, certainly allies with resources - which is why they are playing both sides casually.
Are you serious? Its Putin's goal to re-establish te old Soviet Union. And Ukraine was part of that for decades.
Still predicting that are you? If China is keen to one up Russia in the 'biggest military disaster of the year' stakes then trying to invade Taiwan is a great way to do that. It will, however, set a record for the largest open water swim in human history.
And having claimed it would happen because of Biden, there is no chance you will give him any credit if it doesn't.
Maybe, China is reviewing the world response to the Russian invasion in regards to their own ambitions with Taiwan.
I never said it wasn't. Just explaining China's position. According to our OWN current position, Taiwan is not an independent territory.
