I don't know I missed this until now, but here it is. From a March 2nd article found here on CNET.com This may be one of the best good things(which isn't hard, there aren't many) that the Biden administration has done. I cannot agree with this more. In fact, I think it doesn't go far enough. The government should outright fund the construction of these facilities. Build them, then decide who is going to run them. The latter is the easy part as there is no doubt that these are products that would have no trouble being sold. The fact that we are dependent on foreign sources for these chips when they are so crucial to so much in our digital age is appalling. Granted, the next challenge will be securing a steady source of the raw materials necessary to build them, but having the infrastructure to produce them domestically is one less hurdle. I know that this is sacrilege if you worship the free market deity and that it smacks of communism or socialism or whatever the current boogieman -ism of the week is, but I don't give a ****. We need this capability, and free market Jesus has so far not delivered. Time to take matters into our own hands.
Well I don't think the government needs iron fisted control of these facilities I can't find any reason to disagree. China has Us by the short hairs as far as production of these things go
Looks like this just got another push. I'm all for this. https://www.reuters.com/technology/...uter-chip-bill-compete-with-china-2022-07-19/
