Here we go again ... A Christian florist, who is actually friends with the "groom" (?), is asking the U.S. S.Ct. to review an adverse ruling from the Washington State Supreme Court. Her refusal to arrange the dumb flowers violated the state's public accommodation law. She says the ruling violates her First Amendment right. I'm with her. You're entitled to floral arrangements now? https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2019/jun/6/christian-florist-appealing-supreme-court-over-sam/ Interesting that these cases are coming out of liberal places like Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. My experience in the deep south tells me the reason these cases are not out of the conservative south is that the little blue haired florist in Selma, AL, Baton Rouge, LA, Atlanta, GA or Jackson MS. would go ahead and make the floral arrangement, and if any redneck gave her trouble about it, she and her girlfriends would go after him with their knitting needles. You have to be from down there to understand what I mean.
How stupid to use ones business to push religion. Either way this ends up, only the lawyers come out ahead.
PA laws are PA laws, you know? Get the legi to dump em if you don't like em. Otherwise, arrange the damn flowers.
There are 14 flower shops in Richland, why didn't the couple go to another one? Who shops and gives money to someone who are against them?
I just don't understand why you would SAY you aren't providing your service BECAUSE of your religious beliefs.. Just say I can't do it because I'm out of flowers or I'm already booked for that weekend or my supplier is overcharging or I'm allergic to flowers... Almost anything would be better... There are tons of ways you can drive unwanted business away without making a federal case out of it (literally), although I think it's nuts to turn away almost any business these days....
Why don't Conservatives just post their dumb garbage on other websites? Why do they need to use Facebook and Twitter?
Exactely, it's about forcing people to comply. It would've been easy for the couple to make a social media post about the florist, which would've garnered tons of support and perhaps cost the florist business, but no that's not enough... this florist MUST comply... despite the alternative flower shops they could've gone to.
What is PA? Pennsylvania? The case is out of Washington state. Can abortion fanatics do that? You know, just obey the laws restricting abortion and "if you don't like them, change the law"? Or do they get special access to the courts?
Or you sell your floral business to someone who thinks they can make a profit and obey ALL the laws and regulations that apply.
For a moment, imagine what would happen to libs if we cons acted like they do or the way they accuse us of.
Question: Do porno photographers have to shoot scenes between two men if someone wants to hire them to do it? Can they get sued for discrimination if they say no? If I'm a doctor specializing in cutting edge womb transplants, and a guy comes in wanting to get a womb transplant so he can get pregnant, do I have to do the surgery?
I'd love to give my money to a business that likely wouldn't provide exceptional service... Said nobody but gays.
If the photographer has a storefront and is open to the public, AND IF there is no prohibition in the state on cornholing, then yes, they have a case to compel the photography as a public accommodation. Lawyers will argue about what constitutes a free lance private photographer versus a shop open to the public. Yes, the doctor in WA must become Dr. Frankenstin or be fined and have his license revoked. In WA, at least. Ain't modernity great?
So the cake argument I mostly understood, it was due to the baker customizing the cake to the couple and was fairly artistic. What’s the argument here? It’s a floral arrangement We all know the end goal is anyone religious should be able to deny service to anyone that is homosexual — why not just be honest about it?
T Probably the same argument used by a bar not wanting to serve people with MAGA hats. I don’t believe their case went to the Supreme Court or any other court, the patrons just drank their beer and shots elsewhere.
Can you refuse service to handicap people? Or religious people? Or black people? You are still not answering the question.
A person should be able to choose who he does business with. If a person can choose or not to choose to walk into a business and buy something, then the business owner should have that same choice. That’s freedom. It’s the same freedom Facebook, Google, Twitter and others are using when deciding who can and can’t use their services.
