CNN: Should colleges be allowed to use Native American sports mascots?

I find this question to be very offensive/insulting, even without being an indian.
CNN has a poll on it's front page right now: "Should colleges be allowed to use Native American sports mascots?" 85% of people voted yes, but I am appaled that they would dare even ask such a question. http://www.cnn.com/

 

Gotta love the liberal media, always trying to stir up race issues where none exist. Guess you can tell the election is getting close and Obama is letting loose his dogs of war.

 

Why does that question bother you?

What if a stereotypical image of an African American was used as a mascot? What if a Nazi was a mascot? What if a ChinaMan was a mascot?

I'd find it to be hilarious, personally.

 

I don't really think there's anything wrong with it. My school districts mascot was a Native American.

 

Indian mascots honor the Indians as brave warriors. They are stupid if they oppose them.

 

I kind of agree with you. I've never seen a Native American mascot portrayed as a drunk whos addicted to gambling. They always resemble pre-colonial Indians. Theyre part of this continents history, so I don't really see whats wrong with it.

 

Maybe they don't want to be sported on the helmets for the white devils' games?

Ive never understood any reason why anyone would think it offensive, only the truly sensitive losers would find something wrong with it.

I'm Mexican and I like the Aztecs being used as a mascot by San Diego State, it's pretty cool and intimidating.

 

I get irritated when I see establishment media create tensions between different groups of people in my country, as the poster above you brilliantly explained, only he seems to think it's limited to the "left" testicle.

 

Then of course I didn't even pay attention to what these mascots even are, since I am not a fan of this peperaly stuff. now that I think about what mascots are, it is obvious that THEY ARE ALL OFFENSIVE

 

how so? they are used as a symbol of pride by their universities or schools. how is using a symbol for pride and school spirit offensive?

 

To tell you the truth, I don't even know, but the pride thing is an idiotic thing, here's why: it is pride, such as white pride or black pride that creates racial tensions, it is pride, such as puertorican festival in America or other flag waving that creates tensions between different nations and ethnicities... basicaly this sums up best how I feel about pride:

ummm well if you dont like it then dont watch a college sports game, or a high school sporting event.

these colleges like their identities whether it be a Tiger,Bruin,Trojan, Fightin Irish, or Aztec. its their thing and they like it and nobody is forcing you to take part in it.

so again, whats your problem?

 

Well then maybe they could invade Mexico and start football teams with Toltecs on their helmets.

Supposedly it's just a matter of having the local Tribes approval

the local tribes never gave a rats ass, till a few dissidents noticed the rise in idiotic lawsuits and try to get a few bucks off it.

atleast the Seminole tribe see's the good in it.

1. I never ever watched these games. and I don't even have tv service simply because I live in 21st century.

2.well its a poll, big deal. people vote one way and some vote another, its just a question as it is a current event that does go on in the sports world.

P.S. no matter where you go, what you do or what you try to avoid there are gonna be things you dont like.......... if its not truly a big issue, just ignore it lol.

 

I find it offensive there are white men on my dollar bills.

Are they trying to imply that white men are better than everyone else?

Should the US be allowed to use white men as their mascots?

 

In my opinion, toilet paper style money will soon rightfully be replaced by digital money (and federal reserve eliminated)

Secondly, the whole idea of white men, black men is pathetic, and created probably by racist, when I "the white man" look at my skin, it is blatantly obvious that I am not "white". and neither "black" people are black. i would just call them tan people. or negros if theyre from nigeria. but American media has made that into an insult somehow. when I was living in USSR, I never even new what racism was, there was no such thing. and black people were called negros, but not as a racist slur.

 

That is so funny! What a great point. Now, if the liberals would shut up about this and go home we'd be better off. But then the humor would go away, and that just isn't right.

Maybe Obama should use an OWS loon as his campaign mascot. He admires them. So does Nancy.
