Well, maybe that's a bit too rosy at this point, but it seems the children are seeing reality and are ready to get working again.

Look here, the Republicans are ready to extend the credit ceiling and, what's this, the man who would NOT be "held hostage" appears ready to delay implementation of a tax on medical devices in exchange for Republican concessions...

    Now, who's disappointed?

Since the GOP shut down Government, we shouldn't have to pay taxes for services we no longer get. Someone should file a class action suit against GOP for taxation without representation.

I'd bet most good lawyers understand they should get a sizable retainer from you before taking that case, right?

They probably know the outcome of your case on the face of it.

The GOP used a perfectly legal and Constitutionally endorsed mechanism to right the outrageous over reach of the President and the under the table trickery by Pelosi & the WH to pass this bill in the first place.

They approved an economically correct amount of money to fund the government and defund Obamacare.

Maybe you didn't know that what the Dems did to pass the ACA bill through Congress was borderline criminal. If it was criminal they be facing charges but it wasn't, so they aren't.

    But you be the judge.

Was this sneaky and underhanded or what?

    http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2448709/posts

How else could the GOP stop this bold and dastardly abuse of the rules of Congress from paying off it's masterminds than by using remedies straight from the Constitution, for just these kinds of instances?

The GOP is trying to save America and preserve it and our freedoms for succeeding generations.

Obamacare will cost and hurt and burden Americans and America and will lead to our becoming subjects of an all powerful central government until the end of time unless it is stopped now.

OK that's the funniest bit of bull I have read in a long time. GOP isn't trying to save a damn thing. EVER. Never has, never will. GOP cares about two things and two things only. Being directly opposed to the other party, and kicking cash back to whoever funded the Super PAC that got them elected.

Now don't go taking the President's quote out of context; he was referring to unilateral Republican attempts to extra-legally derail the implementation of Obamacare. Giving a concession on one small corner of healthcare that affects Obamacare in a pretty minor way is not giving into extortion but rather trying to restart the idea of compromise.

Then muster the votes in the Senate and elect a Republican President in 2016 and then go through the formal process of repealing Obamacare. Three years of this program will NOT destroy this nation ((not nearly as much as a debt default would) and if the Republicans are correct will actually increase support for its repeal. Their behavior now means they either really don't believe in democracy for the USA or they are afraid Obamacare will be a success by the time they are in a position to repeal it, or both.

So it looks like the GOP finally figured out why they lost when they did it back in the 90's. Good thing there's at least some compromise taking place.

I am disappoint that the only way to raising the debt limit is to add more debt by delaying the medical device tax. I am disappointed that opening the government is not part of the deal. BUT I WOULD ACCEPT THIS COMPROMISE.

Yes, some posters will continue to rehash their losses, even if they are over 3 years ago and even after the re-election of the President. Yes, the GOP are using legal actions but they are also using stupid actions. The public is telling the GOP that they know that their actions are stupid.

First, they cannot defunded Obama care and it should have nothing to do with a CR. Second, that action shut down the government. This thread is about raising the debt ceiling. Some posters seem to be too dumb to know the difference.

First, this action does not stop Obama care. Second, this thread is about the debt ceiling. The GOP has tried 45 times to stop Obama care. When do some people start to realize that they have lost.

The GOP is selfishly hurting people because they did not get their way.

And could you turn to page two of the White House issued talking points, you've gone beyond boring

I may be a glass half full kind of guy, but I figure a week ago this was a guy that was saying NO negotiations, that he would veto the very bill they are now at least discussing...

Obama may be an (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*), but he is a political genius and I think he's seeing what we all have been, that there is no win in not talking, that he gets dragged into the gutter along with the Tea Party et al and he does not want that...

Besides, he's lost a lot of face on the international scene and this childish sandbox snit is not gaining him bragging rights on statesmanship.....

Based on this and what's being said about him in the European media and elsewhere, I suspect he has to move....

and in negotiations the old saw is "the first inch is as good as a mile">

So it has come down to this for the right. "I want only to talk to my kind of people." Everyone else is trolling.

The right has become so desperate that they can't handle the truth.

    Now there you go again...!

Since when is a person who supports universal medical care, gay marriage, legal pot and so forth be of the right...
and how you get to me in any way wanting to censor anyone is beyond knowing..

That's blind ignorance to suggest that...Obama lemmings really are all the same...you people simply cannot stand the idea that a free thinking liberal could see through your little tin god's bull(*)(*)(*)(*) and your boring talking points...

Post all you like, in fact I strongly encourage you.....

whether anyone reads it or not is another thing...

Ohhhhhhhhhh nowwwwww you guys are worried about destroying the nation? NOW?!
Also the USA is not a democracy. Its a constitutional republic. In a democracy I would get to vote if I wanted to shut government down.

Fine, but the Republicans weren't behaving as if they were in a constitutional republic either. Stop quibbling about the terminology and address the central question: were the Republicans trying to do an end run around the normal process in order to try and get what they wanted that they couldn't get by legitimate means?

Im not quibbling about terminolgy. Im stating fact. This is a constitutional republic. This is how it works even if you dont like it. I dont like that Obama is destroying the nation, but he is the President and in his defense, its not like he didnt say he was going to do all this. Every now and then you get to pick people to make these decisions FOR YOU. If you dont like the Govt shut down then dont vote for these people. It is specifically designed to prevent people like Obam from running amok and acting like a spoiled king. Actually he should be reading this too. I think he thinks this is a kingdom.

Cut the BS. It is a stupid opinion that Obama is destroying the country and he never said that he would destroy the country.

Were the Republicans trying to do an end run around the normal process in order to try and get what they wanted that they couldn't get by legitimate means?

No Obama didnt say he would destroy the nation he told us what he would institute...like.. Obamacare, people voted for him even thoug we told them it would be a disaster. We were right Obama voters were wrong because they didnt take 15 seconds to understand the impact of paying for it.
There is no end run. This is how our govt works. Here Ill illustrate. Is what the repubs did unlawful? Yes or no.

I said I think. it means its an opinion. I base it on his actions. Like benghazi and using the IRS as a weapon. Also his spending is now unmatched by anyone.
