My Dell Latitude D610 laptop running XP Pro will not install some of my USB devices -- yet some install just fine! Huh?

The devices I can not install are a Canon printer/scanner, and a BLUE Eyeball webcam. Everything else I need to install seems to work just fine-- like my Garmin GPS, iPod, iPhone, hard drives, memory sticks, etc..

The printer and the webcam also appear to be working just fine on my Mac -- no problems a 'tall there. :wtf:

    Anybody have any ideas????

I'm not sure I'll be able to help, USB is more complex than it first appears. But when you say 'cant install', what exactly do you mean? Are you trying to install from a disc or just letting the popup do it's thing? Do you get an error message? If so what does it say?

Letting the popup do its thing--goes to internet and says "could not install drivers for this device" or something to that effect.

I have gone as far as downloading the printer driver from Canon's site. I click 'run' and it looks like it's unpacking the zip file and installing and then tells me it's installed yet still no printer. And BLUE doesn't even have drivers for the Eyeball on its website so I don't know what to make of that. Again, both devices work perfectly on the Mac...

I know, I know... "use the Mac then!"

    LOL.

I would try telling the popup dialog not to use the internet - that you'll locate the drivers manually. Then browse for the folder that you unzipped, the files it needs should be in there, although you might need to poke around folders to find the right ones.
