So, now that Social Security has paid out its last week (I think) of January benefits just before the debt ceiling was reached, beneficiaries on various Social Security programs are good for another month. That leaves Congress to deal with the debt ceiling issue over this current week or else Banks won't be paid on the first week in February to distribute the cash over the following three weeks. So, who's going to be labeled anti-bank and not distribute the cash for SS benefits early for the Banks to do what they want with the money for a week until it becomes a liability that must be paid to the bank's customers?
Wait a minute. Are you going to tell us why Congress has to borrow more money to be able to spend money? Is it -- dare I say -- because Democrats won't approve a new budget unless the country borrows more money? Or even worse, the government is so addicted to spending more money than it takes in that it's pretty much a given the country is going to need to borrow more money, whether Democrats or Republicans are in control. Thus both sides are threatening to throw in the wrench and sabotage things if they don't get their way in planning the budget. (I suspect the truth is somewhere in between those two explanations)
The previous Congress passed just weeks of aid on their way out the door. I dare say they wanted a budget showdown. Whether they wanted to paint House Republicans as irresponsible or they actually wanted there to be budget cuts while passing the blame to Republicans, I don't know.
