I just will never quite fathom why people choose conservatism. Surely it's a philosophy for the simple-minded. It can be summarized in a few phrases: "I'm damn proud to be born into God's chosen race - Caucasian; I'm damn proud to belong to God's chosen religion - Christianity; and I'm damn proud to live in God's chosen country - USA". That credo is so so flawed! And they add to it the sentiments, "Negroes should be oppressed and not allowed to vote" and "Women should not be allowed to control their own bodies". How awful and backward. Yeech!

[Note here that the Trump family was a stubborn hold-out and had to be sued by the city of New York before they would concede to integrating the dwellings which they rented.]

I'd like to hear others' points of view.

The concept of "maybe this wasn't such a good idea afterall" is the problem with most progressive ideas. Especially today.

By the time progressive idiots figure it out, the damage is done. And in many instances, too late to fix or bring back to how it was.

So should we drop conservatism and vote for the guy that said "I don't want my kids going to school in a racial jungle"?
If you are gonna start a thread with race hustling, virtue signaling garbage then you might wanna make sure they guy you support isn't a racist.
    FAIL!!!!!!

It sounds like you have been to college and absorbed every cliche the professor told you.

One could say the every liberal wants to end private property. They could say that liberals want to kill babies right up to the moment of birth. They could claim that every liberal finds the political systems in China and Cuba superior and desperately want to bring them here. Of course all liberals are atheists and advocate banning religion.

You could say all these things, and like with your little diatribe about conservatism, you would be wrong.

In MEGA circles, it may be called conservatism, but in all reality, it is populism with no particular political idealogy to speak of. True Conservativism would not allow Trump to even be running for President by the GOP National Committee because of those four indictments, especially the Georgia and Documents indictments. Reagan Conservatism would be a "limited government, new federalism under Reagan, free trade, economic freedom for the most part, and not intentionally helping one group over the other, with the idea of hope and inspiration to all even beyond our national borders. But that is not the MEGA way at all. They may say it every once in a while, but the general idea is for me and me alone and I don't give a damn about anyone else, which is Trump's personal philosophy to the core.

I dare say politicians are too fish-bowl savvy to make the error of uttering such sentiments aloud. They employ the usual dog whistles though.

Trump's populism and Christian Nationalism, the concept that this is God's chosen country among other things in the OP's post, is not conservatism at all. Some may call it that, but it is not true conservatism or even popular conservatism. Conservatism, in Trump's world is just as bad as political progressivism and conservatism is just as far left as progressivism.

Why, you don't really want to be subjected to the points of view of others. Some of what you said is incorrect for the huge majority of conservatives. Stick with your leftist opinions. It will make you happier.

You are not religious, neither am I. You believe in racial equality, so do I. You believe in racial equity. I do not. You don't view a human fetus as a human. There we disagree. If you quote someone in a post you should really say whom you are quoting. Best of luck to you.

Well before you try to critic conservatism you might want to actually find out what it is. Because the above screed is a figment of your imagination not conservatism.

Seems to be an honest question. Lets see how you handle the answer.

Doesn't sound like you would actually consider other points of view, but we shall see.
And your comments about what conservatives believe and want are your fantasy, created to justify your beliefs- and are not real in the slightest.
I'm not trying to insult you- I'm trying to get you to get out of your thinking box for a few moments so you can look around. Stop living on the diet being served up by the liberals.

The very term "Conservative" means to be cautious, to navigate life carefully, make your decisions based on sound principles and findings.
A conservative person is aware of the consequences of spontaneous actions and avoids them. Thinks beyond the right now or the sounds good. The objective is not the immediate, but the future... which invariably will be here in the morning. The situation in America today is a fair example of the contrast between conservative and liberal philosophies- and how they work.

The liberals decide the police are the enemy, and defund police. Result? The criminals are enabled and empowered, and crime thrives. Is that what they expected or wanted- or did they not think that far ahead?

The liberals want to see the world as one big happy family- so they destroy the border for all practical purposes. I will assume you don't need details to know that has turned out to be disastrous.

The liberals want to embrace inclusivity- and ignore the reasons for exclusivity. In effect, every tomato goes in the soup, rotten or not. Include the unfit because they exist.... and refusal to do that is discrimination of some kind. They put people in responsible positions for reasons totally exclusive of the qualifications and competence to do the job.

The liberal philosophy has the same effect on many social issues. It discards values tried and proven true for centuries- and fails to consider the downside.

The nuclear family is being destroyed- producing generations that lack the fundamental values that come from the imprints and value structure that are created in a child by a sound family environment, and those generations then lack the ability to provide a sound family environment... and continue to produce more of the same. Our society is literally dumbing down in multiple ways because of this.

The educational system- where liberal impacts on policies, teachers and school boards see parents of children as their enemies instead of the people they are responsible to.. and introduce liberal beliefs to impressionable children as if they were historically valid.

Conservatives create a stable society based on reason- and equal law for everyone. That will never be perfect because the mix of people will always vary widely, but that is the goal we pursue.

Conservatives are generally partnership thinkers. That means that we are all in this nation together, and that for me to win- my partners must win also.
That doesn't mean I am responsible for making them winners; it means I do not stand in their way, and I encourage them to be winners.
Liberals are generally adversarial thinkers. That means for them to win, the people they perceive to be opponents (anyone who they believe thinks differently) must lose.

Conservatives think you are responsible for yourself, and your first responsibility is self-regulation. You do the right things, because they ARE the right things.
IF we all self-regulated, we would need few laws or courts; most laws are needed only because many people refuse to self-regulate.
Conservatives, in believing they have the obligation to be responsible for themselves- know that others have that same responsibility and that you have no right to interfere with their power to do that.

Conservatives believe that you are the person who controls what happens in your life, and unless you take control- get your butt in the drivers seat and take charge of yourself- that you have failed your primary obligation in life... AND YOU DON'T GET TO BLAME THE CONSEQUENCES ON EVERYONE ELSE. If you don't know how to find that seat, and take that control- I can show you how.

Conservatives believe in your independence and your freedom as well as their own. We respect yours- and we require you to respect ours.

Conservatives don't think the nation owes you a living, to any standard- but has the obligation to keep the playing field and rules clean and fair, where opportunities abound. That does not mean delivered to your door and you don't have to work- it means opportunities will always exist IF you are willing to seek and pursue them.

Conservatives believe in helping those in genuine need, who are in that position for reasons beyond their control This is an important social element that affects the character of all people.
This is understanding the difference between a hand-up and a hand-out.

A hand up is like the neighbors of a sick farmer harvesting his crops, something historically common. I saw this happen personally about two years ago myself. Conservatives support this consistently., and do it spontaneously- because it is the right thing to do. It's helping restore people to productivity when they have been knocked down. In a hand-up, everyone wins. The person helped has his faith in humanity lifted, and feels the compassion of his fellow man. The people providing the help know they are doing something truly beneficial, and that is in line with their self-respect and role as a part of society- a contributor making it work.

A hand-out is totally different. It's not lifting a person up; it is enabling them to stay down. It subsidizes the people who do not want to be productive or responsible for themselves- and want to believe that life entitles them to support. That act literally encourages dependence, destroys pride, destroys self-respect and positive self-image... it destroys spirit. The illusion that this is help is destroyed by the fact it makes matters worse, as our homeless issues are proving right now. Liberals support hand-outs but fail to recognize the damage it does or the reasons it fails.

Liberals.... believe somehow that the hand-out is the same as a hand up. Massive error- one nurturing failure instead of success; ignoring the results.

The list of such contrasts is long. If there is a bottom line or summary- it is that liberals are only liberal in terms of their own interests. Intolerant of other beliefs... and that is hardly "liberal" in any way.
Look around you. The homeless population growing rapidly. People losing personal values and character limits... creating more incivility, hostility, crime and nonsense. That IS the result of the liberal philosophy becoming popular. The promise is like the easy button, the free money, the somebody else will pay or is to blame idea. That will always have appeal, but it's never legitimate. Humans are always a work in progress, trying to get stronger.. the easy way. You can't have a strong society made up of weak and careless people. It's the people who make society what it is, not the other way around.

If you want to be a genuine success, want to like who you are, be truly happy with who you are- you have to live by standards that you truly respect, and that can't allow you to blame anyone else for your choices or position in life.

You EARN your own self-respect, from yourself- you don't get that with legislation, and peer respect has no comparable value. There is no other legitimate way- you are responsible for yourself and your obligations as a human being and a citizen- and until you accept that, you have no power to do anything good. Unfortunately, liberals do not understand that, nor know how to find their power over their own lives- and instead continue to seek power over the lives of others, destroying their right to have power over themselves. This is the stuff that destroys nations.

This is not in the news- it's in your head, it's how you think, and that controls what you think. We are like computers. All capable of many things- but each is limited by its programming.
If you get your programming right, life will work and you will flourish- and such people build great societies. If not..... as the tech rule goes; Garbage in, Garbage out.

Government only reflects the morality and strength of the people. When the people of a nation lose focus on their purpose and their path, the government will become that as well.
The nation will lose its way, and may not survive.

As a conservative, I don't hate liberal people. It's the value void and misdirection of the tunnel vision of the liberal philosophy that matters, because those are toxic to everything that America and any democracy stands for, and must have to remain a free nation with a thriving people.

I put that purpose all else, because without it nothing else can survive.

Sorry for the big answer- but this is of massive importance at this time in our history.
I hope it helps you understand why conservatives think differently than liberals. If you do, things will change.

Thomas Sowell is right. And presidential candidate Tim Scott was right when he said we need to break the back of the teachers' union. Our schools are failing us and we need to rise up and demand they teach only the basics.

The difficult part is that until we repair the broken families the welfare state has so eagerly created anything we do with the schools may be wasted effort.

"Defund the police" is about as earnest as "Nuke the whales". No sane person wants to abolish a crime-fighting and crime-accountability leg of civil operations.

What you call conservatism is actually pseudo-conservatism or populism, which has become of the Republican party.

Conservatives are people of solid principles, while pseudo-conservative\ views are all over the map, and change whoever they think its convenient.

Unfortunately that movement was successfully promoted and applied in many cities- and today they pay the price. Part of the price is the crime, but that's not all.
Once you create a mindset in people, it's almost impossible to "uncreate" it. It's also difficult to rebuild once you have given yourself that image.

Austin Texas is a kind of liberal outpost in a conservative state; its population is nearly 1 million. Reduced its police budget by about $150 million. Today- their police are understaffed, short 800 officers.
Crime is up, cops are retiring and leaving.... recruiting is not going too well. Takes a while to recover and get back to normal, earn back the trust you lost when you make a bad decision on that scale.

Now there are people trying to argue that the reduction in police levels is not connected to the increase in crime.... that makes me think they have lost more than police protection.
