For the last two days, conservative talk show hosts like Mike Gallagher, Mark Davis, Gorka, etc have been saying that Republicans need to stop bringing up abortion bills until after the elections because they KNOW they are on the losing side. Florida's soon-to-be six week ban is the latest causing them to freak out. In other words, anti-abortionists cry out 'murder' but seem to be okay with it if it means Republicans win elections.

Republicans are simply pushing an unpopular and immoral policy. They prefer rape victims and 14-year-olds carry to term. They don't care if a mother loses her ability to reproduce from a pregnancy gone wrong. They don't care if a mother has to carry a dying fetus for months. They don't care if a pregnancy has gone ectopic. Many other reasons why they will always be on the wrong side of history.

Are you with Media Matters? Hard to believe you are consuming conservative talk radio otherwise.

The Pro-Life faction of the Republican party would probably have more political ground to gain if they pointed out all the extremist Pro-Abortion laws that have been passed within the last couple years in several Democrat states, and give care to explain exactly what those laws do.
Because most Americans know nothing about that.

Guessing that those opposed to your position are clueless is one of the worst bets you could possibly make.

But then they'd have to talk about the strict anti-abortion laws that are getting passed in different places in response to the absence of the Roe precedent. There are extremists on both sides who subscribe to an either ALL or NOTHING view, but I'd suspect that a majority of the country lands about in the middle on this issue, the loudmouths on both sides aside.

Supporting abortion bans or setting ridiculously short terms into a pregnancy is a losing issue the foes of abortion. Abortion has proven to be the best issue the Democrats have. If Democrats gain complete control, they will make abortion legal up to nine months, and they will probably pay for them with public money.

A more reasonable compromise position of say 24 weeks would get the issue off the table for Republican candidates. If the pro life people take a hard political stance, and insist that Republican candidates adopt it, they will lose elections and get nothing.

    That's what Canada does.

And, they have fewer abortions per thousand pregnancies than we do.
The woman in the Texas case I mentioned earlier needed an abortion after 24 weeks.

Her appeal was denied all the way up to Abbott.

She was able to be treated in another state, and thus is still able to procreate.

Let's remember that there are various diseases where the preferred treatment is lethal to fetuses, plus fetuses can have dread disease as well.

The idea that there is some cutoff date where abortions are no longer needed is just plain false.

Plus, those opposed to abortion are never going to stop. This issue is not ended by a magic number of weeks.

    Here's an idea:

Execute a serious investigation into why women have abortions.

Then, work on reducing those factors.
