Interesting stats on the mix of liberal vs conservatives by state. Also surprising how the minority (libs) were able to take control of both congress and the white house in the 2008 elections. 2010 saw a slight reversal of that outcome and 2012 will no doubt see the trend totally reversed. How does your state shape up? Do you need to move?? Top 10 most liberal vs. most conservative states February 6, 2012 Gallup just issued a report on how liberal vs. conservatives Americas 50 states are. Frank Newport reports for Gallup, Feb. 3, 2012, that the measure of how liberal or how conservatives a state is depends on the percentage of the states population who self-identify as liberal or conservative. By that yardstick, the District of Columbia, the seat of our feral gubmint, is the most liberal, no surprise there. Nearly 4 out of 10 (39.8%) of the residents of D.C. call themselves liberal, whereas fewer than 2 out of 10 (19.1%) D.C. residents describe themselves as conservative. Mississippi is the most conservative state, with more than 1 out of every 2 (53.4%) Mississippians calling themselves conservative, and only 1 of every 10 (10.9%) Mississippians identifying themselves as liberal. Here are the 10 most liberal states; the 10 most conservative states; followed by a table of all 50 states. Top 10 Liberal States: Top 10 Conservative States: Self-Identified Ideology by State: Whats interesting is that how liberal or conservative the population of a state are does not match up with political party identification. As an example, although conservatives outnumber liberals (35.2% vs. 25%) in California, its a blue state that consistently votes Democrat. As shown by other polling data, Americans overall are significantly more likely to identify as conservative than as liberal. 40% of more than 218,000 adults 18 and older interviewed in Gallup tracking in 2011 said they were conservative, 36% were moderate, and 21% liberal. Only in the District of Columbia and Massachusetts did liberals outnumber conservatives.
You fail to see why Santorum and MB do really well in Minnesota. There is a huge backlash against the liberals in this state ..the GAY agenda and the Teacher unions getting a free run. The TWIN CITIES are ruining the conservative image in this state and everywhere outside of those 2 liberals strongholds we get ultra conservatives polling really well. The legislation and media are so over the top for liberals and their agenda it makes most of us want to move out. WE make our welfare the easiest to get..our illegals doing work and even the only MUSLIM in a position in Congress.WHY MN ? Because we encourage Somalians to settle here.Like we need cab drivers from Africa driving on our winter roads..Hint..it aint pretty.. WE have more gays in the twin cities other than San Fran. Teacher and government unions are strong..not because they work..but because UNIONS took off here and most agree with that principle. Unions worked in the private sector..not in the government . So now we see the push back..when the liberal agenda is pushed HARD for decades..the social conservatives will push back and elect and nominate the far right ultra conservative. MB and Santroum are a product of that liberalism..15 years ago they wouldn't get elected..now they soar.
Liberals used to stand for something else - not even sure exactly what. But now they're socialists, thanks for many decades of "conditioning" by the dem party giving out bennies in exchange for votes. The dem party is nothing but a bunch of lying con-artists pushing socialism and the hard left is steadily working to implement some form of totalitarian govt. Harsh? No, it's just the truth. They deny it, but all you have to do is look and see, day after day what is really going on. No wonder the economy can't recover - Obama is sidestepping the Constitution at every chance. Sidestepping Congress too. Installing his agenda though massive govt spending, regulations, and more and more new govt agencies filled with bureaucrats doing his bidding. We have a chance to STOP this in NOvember.
You're right, Trinn... good points. It's encouraging there are actually so few LIBERALS in America. No doubt MODERATES have seen what happens when libs are given too much power. CONSERVATIVES knew all along how disasterous it would be... and we were right.
As always you sweetly smash them. This is a dangerous election. I (almost) cringe in fear of what will take place in large urban areas with The Black Panthers and the government turning a blind eye again. I still feel that a fair percentage of those 1st time voters from before won't vote again...by Gawd they already done voted!...the youth will hopefully just "party on Dude" and forget about it...I still just hopes it rains on election day...in every state until the polls are closed.
WOW look at DC i know they need big govt so they can have good paying taxpayer funded jobs but my heavens!!!!!!
This is why I disagree when people put up California as the ultimate liberal state. There are actually way more conservative areas than liberal areas. Compare that to places in New England where there isn't a single conservative county. Hard to believe Mississippi could be the most conservative state with nearly a 40% black population. 98% of them vote liberal, as the 2008 election demonstrated.
Just like here in my state of NJ. We have two largely populated cities, Newark and Camden. If you leave those areas, its mostly suburbs and rural areas that are for the most part conservative. Makes one wonder, maybe election fraud is going on in a bigger scale than anyone thought.
And another point to bring up is, this is another reason the left and the progressive movement took the voting of senators out of the hands of the state governments directly into voters. If we still elected senators by state governments, there would always be a majority (usually) of republicans serving in the senate compared to what goes on today.
For the most part the so called liberal/democrats have been hijacked by the Marxists. Most of today's so called liberals are anything but liberal. They are for more regulation, bigger government, fewer liberties, higher taxes...etc. That is directly opposite of what was originally termed as Liberals.
Not sure what most of you are using as an example of liberals. None of this really matters, when our recent elections always seem to be right down the middle. Obama's resounding victory in 2008 was only 53% to 47%. Every year, election keep getting closer and closer to 49% to 51%. It really doesn't matter what somebody calls themselves, becasue the definition of conservative in 2012 has become, Christian, fiscal conservatives, anti gay marriage, anti abortion, American nationalists, and liberals have become pro gay marriage, pro choice, secular, fiscal whatevers. What matters is how you vote...and as a country, we're split right down the middle, and have been for 30 years. To think that conservatives are all racist greedy and intolerant, is a stupid as thinking liberals favor government control of the means of production, and want to outlaw private property
As a socialist that I am. Please leave to insult me comparing me with that frauds and traitors to the worker class that are the Democrats. The Dems are so capitalists like the rest. They don't have anything of socialist.
The Free State of Idaho is 'blessed' with a tiny, but vocal, minority of leftists that the overwhelming majority of folk tolerate mostly as walking (well some can walk) examples of what unsuccessful potty training can bring and how to avoid a similar fate for ones children.
How would you say the definition of liberals has changed in 2012? Seems to me they're pretty much opposite your description of conservatives: Atheists, fiscally irresponsible, pro gay marriage, pro abortion, America haters. And you're wrong... we're not split down the middle. Self-proclaimed liberals are a very small percentage of the population. Thank God for that.
If we're not split down the middle...why were the last 8 Presidential elections won or lost by less than 5% points?
Because, compared to Barack Obama, the last 8 presidential candidates were actually moderates. Somebody's gonna win or lose in 2012 by more than 5% points... I'd bet my boots on that.
Yep, the 17% of Texas' lefties live mostly in Austin... with a few pockets in Dallas & Houston. They're revitalizing an innercity neighborhood near me, so I don't mind 'em being here. Just DON'T GIVE 'EM ANY POWER... they'll try to revitalize YOU!
agreed but the states with more liberals tend to influence the conservatives into voting for 'conservative democrats' the states like the southern ones in the chart don't have any liberals to 'taint' their masses and are bread and butter republicans. think of us like an infection, it takes time to spread our virus into the bloodlines but it will happen.
Spreading might take longer than expected if you consider liberal agenda items like abortion and gay marriage. Better do like Russia and beg liberals to have more babies. Their population is dwindling.
Perhaps because the survey favored landline telephones, but I really don't know. I am just taking an educated guess. Each sample includes a minimum quota of 400 cell phone respondents and 600 landline respondents per 1,000 national adults, with additional minimum quotas among landline respondents by region. http://www.gallup.com/poll/152459/Mississippi-Conservative-State-Liberal.aspx California has significantly more registered Democrats than Republicans, but likely voters tend to be more conservative than liberal. Perhaps likely voters tend to be more conservative while there are just a greater amount of liberals. Again, I don't know. I am just guessing. As of February 2011, voter registration is at 72.8% with 17.2 million of the 23.6 million eligible voters registered to vote. Forty-four percent are registered as Democrats, 30.9% as Republicans, 20.4% as decline-to-state or independents, and 4.7% as other parties. ...Among likely voters in our surveys, 40% say they are conservative, compared to 32% with liberal leanings and 29% who say they are middle-ofthe-road http://www.ppic.org/main/publication_show.asp?i=255
Exact figures aside, both polls show basically the same thing. Even though California is a blue state, they have signifcantly more conservatives/moderates than liberals. Not sure the Dem/Rep results jive since that response doesn't ask conservative or liberal. Interesting site though, thx for posting the link.
