We supposed to be a Constitutional Republic .. Gov't not allowed to mess with essential liberty of own volition -- needs 2/3rd majority consent to do so. Clearly we are no longer that .. how to describe what we are on the spectrum ? tough one .. but will give it a shot.

Our system is an Oligopoly Bureaucracy Fusion Monster -- taking the worst elements of both extreme capitalism and Extreme socialism (communism/authoritarianism) combining into one ugly monster. A pay to play system .. which allows Oligopolies to control .. while increasing Gov't power .. towards a kind of feudal state of indentured servitude

There is no such thing as functional democratic process without 1) an educated public (educated in the items listed in previous post .. knowing what legitimate vs illetitimate authority .. and the basics of philosophy .. logic, logical fallacy , what constitutes a valid argument - which we manage not to teach through 12 years of school) 2) fair and free media.

We have neither .. the selection is between Sodomy in the front .. or from behind .. take your choice.

In a democracy in which Bill Clinton didn't get 50+% of the vote in 1992, for example, (Clinton didn't get 50+% of the vote in 1992 yet still won the presidency) a runoff would have to been performed to decide the next president of the democracy in 1992 with the runoff winner getting 50+% of the vote.

BTW, the US is a republic (with one democratic tendency: the vote and not the vote for president). The US isn't a democracy.

There is a difference between naming a country a Republic and actually having a constitution that guarantees the people a Republic.

Hopefully you learned why we are a Republic form of Democracy. So many people don't know why we have the EC and not the popular vote. It is important to understand why the founding fathers chose a Republic over a pure Democracy. A pure Democracy promotes mob rule and this would work out well for the majority but would silence the minority. Were you aware of that?

No you are incorrect, try reading mixed with a little thinking, it's amazing how that helps to understand the simpler things in life.

I inadvertently posted the following incorrect definition of a republic:

    1. a country that is governed by a president and politicians elected by the people and where there is no king or queen

As we all know, the people do not elect the president. We recommend to the Electoral College members whom to vote for. I say "recommend" because though members of the EC are sworn to follow the popular vote, they are not required to do so. And even then, I believe the House and/or the vice president can negate the outcome. Am I correct here?

It appears nearly impossible to deprogram those indoctrinated throughout their education or quell a troll.

I must say, this thread turned out to be enthralling and educational for me.

One has to marvel at the extraordinary lengths to which our inspirational (as in divine influence) Foulders went to avoid, prevent possible tyranny of the majority. I suppose the Founders could have mandated aardvarks constitute the EC and Congress. Aardvarks would certainly be phlegmatic but not very thoughtful or productive. You're probably the most intelligent person here: I imagine you have viable alternatives to people, but spare me, please.

    Goodbye and good riddance.

You think trumps attack on OUR Capitol is funny? Are you even an American?

Since I ran my own business most of my working life ... I think that blows your assumption that "I" hate capitalism right out of the water; wouldn't you say. I've served my country and put my life on the line, I love my Country more than life; so that definitely blows your second assumption clean out of the water too. Care to make any more?

That I believe Donald Judas tRump to EVERYTHING I hold dear, a clear and present DANGER to OUR Constitution and to the World as a whole is an indication of my love of Country, I will protect and defend OUR Constitution to my dying breath. OUR Constitution has never been under greater threat as it was on January 6th this year.

We are not "A" Democracy rather we are a form of Democracy known as a Republic. There is a difference or our Founding Fathers would not have chosen it. And please don't be so rude by yelling at people. Are you a child?

Prominent Wisconsin Republican Rebukes Fellow GOPers For Baseless Election Attacks

A prominent Wisconsin Republican delivered a stinging rebuke of the state legislature’s “investigation” into the 2020 presidential election results Monday, saying her party should move on from bogus claims of voter fraud for its own good, and for the good of the country.

“No election is perfect, but there is no evidence of intentional malfeasance, no evidence that the election in 2020 wasn’t accurate,” said State Sen. Kathy Bernier (R), a member of the chamber’s Republican leadership and chair of the Committee on Elections, Election Process Reform and Ethics.

At one point Monday, Bernier choked back tears as she recited the famous quote from Benjamin Franklin, describing America’s newly-drafted constitution in 1787: “A republic, if you can keep it.”

“We’re in jeopardy of losing it,” Bernier said.

Repubs are working very hard to make this republic unrecognizable.
