It looks like liberal dream is finally coming to fruition. They were hoping for a recession to hurt Trumps chances of re-election and one of his strongest arguments was the economy.
With limited travel, new deals are going to be postponed. With bars and restaurants reducing their capacity we will have a larger number of unemployment claims. Many people who depend on large events to make a living are staying home.
So, unemployment increase and decrease in consumer spending will result in a mild recession. On the election year.
Congratulations! The only problem is - we have Trump vs Biden with his dementia. It’s not like there are some real nice options out there. Do you people even care about those who are forced to stay home due to their hours being cut by their employers? Poor laborers and hourly employees will be the first ones to feel immediate pain.
Trump is a fool for allowing himself to be dragged into this mess. I think Boris Johnson is the only leader in western world who made the right call.

My only hope is that the price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia will outlast this hysteria and will help kickstart the economy again by cheap oil.

It'll turn into a nightmare for them as a baby boom results from all the shelter-in-place measures. It will be the Generation forever known as the Coronians!

I heard today an anti-viral used to treat another virus worked on all 44 people in France they tried it on. If this turns out to be true, life will return to normal quickly. Then deaths will be limited to a few hundred as opposed to the Obama/Biden H1N1 response where 12,000+ died. Why would anyone want to elect Biden with that an 8 year long stagnant malaise economy?

I'm curious: A lot of your economic gains have been from the Shale oil explosion.

How do you think that a super duper cheap price of oil will help that?

I've been following this too. Gov Cuomo is going to be using it immediately in NY. Trump wants all the red tape cut to use asap but FDA says they need clinical trials for it to be approved for coronavirus. Are they done yet? I hope they are working 24/7 to get that done. Imagine Trump addressing the nation letting them know we now have an antiviral medication that will kill coronavirus.

there's been very little talk about this, but I think this could be our saving grace!

Yes, it's been around for decades and is cheap. The FDA wants to study it for use against coronavirus. We have too much at steak to take months for trials. This isn't a new drug, they should know enough about it already to get this approved quickly.

    Are you being serious?

If the USA managed to get out with LESS than 100,000 Deaths it would be a Major Miracle.

No, you're thinking about the Biden/Obama years of inaction on H1N1, 12,000 people died.

If you all want a little test to see if you're a Trump Cultist, then ask your self if your first worry with Covid 19 was the health of family and friends - or if your first worry was about how this would impact Trump's popularity.

    Sad.

    I’m not a cultist. I voted Hillary.
But, it doesn’t change the fact that I am worried about the economy.
Did you know that in the last recession we saw at least 10,000 suicides?
What is better - tank the economy, make EVERYONE miserable, and lose 10,000 productive people to suicide, or lose a few thousand 80 year olds to a strain of a common cold (who will probably die during next flu season anyway)?
While it’s not good to put a value to life, there are situations when someone must make the call. Our response to this outbreak is not justified, INMHO.

Too bad Obama and Biden couldn't pull us out of it.

I haven't looked that heavily into it yet, but it seems oddly beauricratic to want to study it over a long period of time for this specific virus when the drug itself is not some random cocktail that was mixed up last week.

perhaps someone could convince me otherwise why there should be delays, until then it just makes no sense.

seems like there is some confusion. or that maybe there are only like a dozen cultists.

who the hell's first thought was that besides maybe some campaign managers? seriously.

This will be rather bad and has nothing to do with politics. My town will look like a ghost town when this is over. No tourism at all, which is a mayor economic factor. Restaurants closed, all non essential businesses closed. Small business community.
It will be brutal and make the years of 07 to 10 look like a prospers time.
I am in good shape, no loans and mortgages. Nice bank account, own all my properties, titles clean.
Saw 2008 coming, took huge losses to clean up my financial situation and have since than lived by the directive, you need at least one year in cash and invest rather conservatively.
Live 100% in your means and put every month 1/4 of your take home, or half, on that no interest savings account..
    Same for my company
It will be a rather wild ride, despite of being a essential business. But me and my employees and my company, will get out of it bruised but all right. I am very sure of that.

Johnson is an idiot and he showed it again and had to make a 100% flip and probably screwed up his country, before his flip.

I hope your job is essential and the company which employs you, other wise you are in trouble.

Good luck to you and your family

Factually the last recession ended June 2009, 5 months after Obama took office.

    What.

This price war is not good for our economy at all.

I'm worried about the jobs of my friends and the health of a few I know who have bad immune systems.

Over reaction can be just as or even more damaging.

It wouldn't hurt with tarrifs. We could use the money to pay off some debt.

    A few points-

Trump didn't make the virus, he's just responding to it. I think the vast majority of his base will be counting on him to fix the economy after this all blows over.

The alternative is 'open borders' Joe Biden, who knows diddly squat about economics and would have flooded the nation with immigrants during this epidemic, making it worse. That only assuming he had the mental fortitude to do anything at all... he is losing it more and more with every public appearance.

During H1N1 the virus from Mexico (the borders were never closed nor travel restricted) 12,000+ Americans died.

You said Obama/Biden couldn't pull us out of the recession. The user proved you wrong. Now go away.
