If you don't want to have sex with guys, I just don't believe engineers are going to make you happy and fulfilled with that. There have been attempts to make people hate having sex with those they originally wanted to have sex with. For example, there have been lots of attempts to make same sex oriented humans hate having sex with those of the same sex. That's substantially different, as it's an attempt to create disgust, not fulfillment. And, it fails even at that. IMHO, you would be much better off getting help with who you are and how you are perceived by others.
Will, I don't know why you responded. This guy was just blowing off some steam. If he wanted to he could go out with men and not tell anyone if he were serious. I've even heard that some straight guys have sex with men to hold them over until they get with a woman again.

Yes, that would imply that there's a character flaw, and he would have to either identify it and fix himself--and when has anyone done that?-- or he should go to therapy and get help identifying it--which is expensive.
