How do you go into someone else's apartment and think it is yours? Wouldn't the layout and smells be different from yours.

This kind of sounds like there could have been some type of affair going on here.

I will agree that that something appears odd. How did her key open the door?
How far on was she before she shot the man?
    Did they know each other?

There us something rotten in the State of Denmark.

Again you present this forums system with what is essentially a news report. What point are you trying to present along with this news item that has got anything to do with either politics or ideology? So it is a news item. Good for you!

Looked through the story and could not find anything about race... were the victim white and the police officer black? Just curious...

Doesn't look like this event took place while on official police business, that she is a cop is just happenstance.

    Seems dodgy.

Why would you shoot her? Surely you wouldn't see someone in your apartment and shoot them with their back turned no questions asked. If you have a firearm on them you have a massive, insurmountable advantage.

Ask them what's the go and go from there. She'd say "I live here!", he'd say "this is my apartment!", she'd say "this is number 14!" and that's be it.

Classic case of manslaughter. Sucks for all involved.

I would expected her to be better then this if true and she is a cop

if this is true ""It was, like, police talk: 'Open up! Open up!'" 20-year-old Caitlin Simpson told The Dallas Morning News."

then sounds like she could not get in and was yelling to open the door

Not to worry. I will check in and see how you've managed to turn this into yet another anti-cop and racist screed.

Except that she had a gun and her bs story still got her a reduced charge.

Just saw where the victim is black. I suspect if the woman is white this story would take a different track. That her race wasn't mentioned leads me to believe she's probably not white. This is looking more like a tragic mistake or a personal issue.

She is white. It happened at 10pm. Her key wasn't working and she kept trying until he came to the door and opened it. She shot him. My guess is that she was drunk or on drugs.

She was heard by several witnesses saying she needed to call her partner, which a responding officer allowed. Probably to get their stories straight.

No idea but her explanation sure is lacking in credibility......the charges are justified, let the courts sort it out.

BINGO! Is what made this story standing up, I think (see my post #4 in this thread) And I do believe she's white - was she not, this story would not have seen the light of day.

Not to derail this thread, but if you want to talk about injustice...

My family lives just a few miles from where this happened and they're stunned about the sentence, especially since the kid didn't show any remorse. I'm pretty sure this cop will get more than 9 months in prison plus the loss of her job. Her life is toast, this kid is going to gladiator school.

Teen pleads guilty to fatally beating homeless man, gets just 9 months in jail
A teen who fatally beat a homeless man pleaded guilty Thursday as part of a sweetheart deal that will land him in jail for just nine months.

Branlee Gonzalez, 19, smirked his way through the proceeding in Manhattan Supreme Court then turned to his family in the gallery flashing a broad smile and gave them a thumbs up and wink before he was taken into custody.

Manslaughter seems reasonable unless more is found that would add in charges. And I think police departments need to pay special attention to the caliber of incoming officers. Can't say if this woman was a new addition but the whole situation reeks of incompetence for someone having the power they have.

I was surprised to learn that a fast track to becoming a police officer is to be employed as a prison guard. You wonder if fast track avenues like that lesson the quality of personell.

Not only should her situation be looked into but providing her actions and judgement turns out to be as incompetent as it sounds the police dept should look at their hiring and training qualifications for the job.

This guy was an innocent man in his own home. It's a serious matter to be looked at from all angles.

Sounds like injustice in the Manhattan beating death, but justice in Dallas.

She was on the wrong floor at the wrong door. What?

There was a movie I once watched where this guy, drunk after the farewell party, was wrongly put on the plane, flew to another city, took a cab to the address same as his, went up to the correct floor of the typical apartment building, opened and entered apartment very much like his.

    Stranger things happen.

I saw a movie where two people made a wish in a fountain that they could live each other's lives, and when they went home they had switched into each other's body.

Stranger things happen if you confuse movies with reality.
